Takeback Ettiquette

This thread is still going?

There is no etiquette, because THERE IS NO TAKEBACK IN THE RULES OF CHESS.

The end.

Do you actually think that is a solid argument? There is no such thing as a mouse slip in OTB chess, so there is no such thing as a takeback rule in OTB chess. Is this surprising?
@Audon99

There are scores of slips in OTB chess, that is why you lose in blitz when you make an illegal move.

You have never played in an OTB blitz tournament? You have never seen how many pieces get knocked over and chit there?

And the halls were silent, nobody ever saw Audon99 again as he moved to Australia to live a humble life in silence farming a small patch of desert, he had found his purpose.

@Audon99

Slips can absolutely be avoided. There is a setting you can turn on that forces you to make your move, then click a button to confirm that's the move you want to make. If you submit the wrong move even with that option available (and it's available to everyone), it is absolutely your own fault.
Those were rather touch-move cases as far I can rely on my memory. Touch-move is strictly applied in chess. And people wanna even takeback moves?

Always remember Richard Fenton: “A man that will take back a move at Chess will pick a pocket.”

Sorry, I didn't know I had to respond in a timely manner. I disagree that OTB situations are analogous to online mouse slips. In the real world there are 2 people that can try to work out disagreements, and if that fails some kind of arbiter. People can take into account intent in OTB chess, and be reasonable. I have never seen a situation where someone drops a piece 1 square short of checkmate to lose their queen and the game in OTB chess. I have seen that online.

Yo, too many people play way to hastily to cope with it but they wanna the full comprehensive insurance from the opponent.

No, that's not the way it's gonna work. No. No. No!
If that's how you need to win, I feel sorry for you. I will continue asking for and giving takebacks on clear slips, and continue thinking less of anyone who can't be a good sport. Neither of us are going to convince the other here though.

I should add that slips during time scrambles are a totally different matter. Those will happen and I think are analogous to time scrambles in OTB chess. I am talking about slips that happen with plenty of time for each side. I don't give or ask for takebacks in bullet.
