1st cwc'

Hi all,

Seeing as how we won't be having a CWC this year, I was thinking of hosting one (lichess.org/forum/team-crazyhouse-world-championship/cwc-2023). However, because of the tight schedule, I thought it was best to still do some kind of big zh event, but not a proper CWC. For that reason, and to have a big zh event in 2023, I'm going to host a Crazyhouse World Cup, which will be a wholly separate event (and thus have a separate history) from the Crazyhouse World Championship. As has been tradition with the Crazyhouse World Championship, I encourage people to donate to the prize fund. Here are the details for the event:

1st Crazyhouse World Cup

Date: September 18 – December 10

*Format*

Qualification tournaments: 8 tournaments spread out over 2 weeks, 3 players advance from each tournament. 8 wild cards invited by the tournament organizer (FischyVishy).

lichess.org/tournament/1ucy6hx0
lichess.org/tournament/sunwjWuE
lichess.org/tournament/sisD9eWl
lichess.org/tournament/JxJbci6y
lichess.org/tournament/7NI9Oqjy
lichess.org/tournament/NY2xXSgT
lichess.org/tournament/gBLgolxU
lichess.org/tournament/UW2RpcNj

Double elimination: 32 players. The grand final will be the same as the CWC grand final (so 60 games total). There will be no "resetted grand final" as there are already 60 games in the grand final.

Matches: Same format as CWC (lichess.org/forum/team-crazyhouse-world-championship/crazyhouse-world-championship-2021-tournament-structure-and-prizes?page=1)

Withdrawals / Disqualifications: lichess.org/forum/team-crazyhouse-world-championship/crazyhouse-world-championship-2021-tournament-structure-and-prizes?page=3#29

Note: If any rule is ambiguous or missing, we'll follow the CWC rules.

*Prize Fund*

I will donate $300 to the prize fund. Hopefully by the end of the tournament we can reach a $1000 prize fund at minimum. Donate to support crazyhouse!

Hello @FischyVishy nice that you try to keep supporting variant :).
I was wondering, isn't it better to have a swiss arena so everyone play the same ammount of games.
+ no Beserk option.
Instead of only no Beserk option ? :).
Ofcourse up to the organiser to decided.
But i though its better to have the same ammount of games :).
But since there are allready some arena made ig the chances for it are unlikely :).
Hi wateenellende :) I don't mind implementing your suggestion at all personally, but yeah the arenas have already been made, so it might be a bit confusing now. If other people would like to switch to Swiss, though, it's not too late to change it, so make your voices heard!
Hello Fischy Vishy :), nice your open for the idea despite you make arenas allready.
But i think i should have been earlier with the suggestion since its allready 14 september and the championschip need to be decided this year i think keeping it how it is fine :) .
I only though it would be a little improvement if everyone play the same ammount of games because some players might be more favoured the quicker players (i'm on of them ;p i admit) who prob getting more games than others and since its for the cwc 2023 lichess championschip i though its best if everyone got the same ammount of games.
but lets stick how it is i should have suggest it earlier :).
Its allready 14 september and let the 2023 championschip be decided in 2023 ;p so i think lets not spending to much time in discussing stuff and let the tournament take place quick :).
But just some idea i had i wanna share with you.
All right then! I like the idea and we should definitely implement it next year, but yeah maybe better to stick with the plan this year. Here's to a great event!

maybe swiss would be nice, but if someone takes a break, than he’ll definitely have minimal chances to qualify, but in arena he’ll have:)

also question to @FischyVishy when you’ll announce wildcards?
thx, great... but 256 or 128 participants would be better than 32 ((((

As soon as the qualifiers finish so that I get an idea of who couldn't participate. It will be mostly rating-based.

Hard to do on such a limited schedule!
