Thoughts on takebacks?

No, it is not. You (they) wanna save time in order to flag the opponent, therefore move hastily and wanna be rewarded for clumsiness. Move slower and don't bother your opponent or confirm your moves.

Hands off from online chess if one can't stand handling the computer appropriately.

@Sarg0n sorry, claiming takebacks would only be abused by flaggers is Schwachsinn (btw. what s a flagger in your opinion? someone who wins on time?). Move confirmation for a 10+0 game is annoying, and misclicks can happen when I try to mark a point (for example).
Also in otb "accidentally knocking off a piece" could most of the time be prevented by playing slowly.
@Sarg0n what? I think you misunderstood, when people accept takebacks from there opponents request they should be rewarded for giving the takeback to their opponents, thats what I was proposing.
I am constantly granting take-backs if it is an obvious blunder or mouseslip. It is much more enjoyable to continue a battle that is about even than to think that I only won because of a stupid blunder. It doesn't feel like a victory because I played well. I am not that desperate on rating points that I have to take everything I can get.
It is chess I am enjoying, and not the 10 rating points that I would be higher by "cutting off" a match because an opponent blunders.
I am well aware that we are living in times where only results count, but the result of a rejected opponent's take back is unsatisfying to me, if I am true to myself...
Way too romantic, I know, but I will keep granting take backs, even if no one else does :-)
'Takebacks' should be disabled for rated games, just like in tournaments, to keep players from arguing or complaining. I have allowed moves to be undone a few times but those were pretty blatant mistakes, like a mouse slip or some such, but for the most part I don't allow moves to be undone. Unrated games it doesn't really matter.
To think a bit more out of the box:

Playing on the internet enable us to play with extremely short time periods, moving within fractions of a second is rather the rule than the exception. The cracks can handle it but the wannabes struggle to keep track and using it physically properly.

My suggestion: play a period you can handle or if you want to emulate the cracks then emulate their attitude as well! For them it is self-evident that takebacks is a nonono-go!
I am currently making 1 unintentional move about every 4 or 5 games on cell phone. It's a small screen so I have to focus very carefully when I make my move. If my unintentional move is not granted a takeback I will do either one of two things: 1) if I am still in a playable position I will continue the game 2) if my obvious mistake is not granted a takeback I will resign from the game.
Sometimes in an interesting game (longer time controls only), I will propose a takeback if my opponent hangs a queen/rook in an obvious mouse slip when time isn't currently a factor.
Takeback requests are annoying. They are not part of online game. You make mistake then - tough - you suffer from it. Let it be misclick or oversight, makes no difference.

Dont like the game after misclick: just resign. Let alone in blitz game... I am not gonna waste time on granting takebacks
