Lichess todo popularity bracket

Because very few players have mentioned or rated suggestions (feature requests) in this thread, I'm changing the bracket size to 32 and suggestions need to get +3 (instead of +5) to get added to the bracket.

Please reply to this thread and let lichess know which (possible future) features are important to you.
I think we should have different sorts of competitions possible... for example a knockout or a league. You could have an on-going football style league system that people could join in addition to their normal gaming. Imagine divisions of anywhere from 10-20 players, with promotion and relegation... it'd be awesome!

I'm trying to set one up at the moment (www.worldchessleague.co.uk) but lichess would be THE place to do it.
That's a great idea GreyWolf! www.worldchessleague.co.uk looks nice, but you're right that it would be even better if this would be possible on lichess.

Different sorts of competitions +1
I have several more possible new features (most of them have been mentioned by others in the Forum):

Name: Hourglass time control option
Description: Each player's clock starts with a specified time (e.g. 1 minute, 10 min, etc.). While Player 1 is deciding on their move, their clock time is decreasing and Player 2's clock time is increasing. Moving slowly gives your opponent extra time. The sum of both clocks will always remain the same. It works just like an hourglass.
URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_control (Descriptions of several possible time control options)

Name: Info when being challenged
Description: The same information should be instantly visible when someone challenges you to a game as when a created game is mentioned in the List at lichess.org (Player, Rating, Time, Mode).

Name: Playing chess variants
Description: It would be great if we could also play some chess variants against each other at lichess.org.
URL: www.chessvariants.org (Information about several chess variants)

Name: Best wins / Worst defeats
Description: Links to your ten best wins and ten worst defeats on your profile page (based on your rating and the rating of your opponent at that time).

Name: Timestamped chat
Description: You can see who said what and at which time he/she said it, so you can estimate if it is beneficial to reply to someone in the chat.

Name: Most Played Openings
Description: Your profile shows which openings you've played most often (with white and black).
URL: www.chessgames.com/perl/chessplayer?pid=52948 (An example of a website where Most Played Openings are shown)

Name: Percentage of draws
Description: An addition to the profile page so it also displays two drawing percentages (one with white and one with black)

Name: Position volatility analysis
Description: Analysis should include position volatility. We can define volatility roughly by some function of the number of moves which result in a similar (or better) positional evaluation. Volatility has an inverse relationship with the amount of good moves for the playing side. Sometimes white has a lot of fairly natural looking moves which result in no significant loss while black has to play very accurate moves (volatility is low for white and high for black). Some variations have a good evaluation but also high volatility.
URL: http://en.lichess.org/forum/lichess-feedback/analysis-should-include-position-volatility (Discussion on position volatility)

Name: Load next game after analysis
Description: After analyzing one of my games (and watching the analysis by Stockfish), I want to be able to load my next (or previous) game by clicking a button. Analyzing several of your own games will then be much quicker.

Name: Advanced Chess games
Description: I would like it if I could also play games where I do use an engine and my opponent does as well. We must have both chosen to play an "Advanced Chess" game and we must play a Casual game (not Rated).
URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Chess (Information about Advanced Chess)

Name: Watch Player TV
Description: The possibility to only watch games by a certain player at lichess.org/tv. If that player starts a new game, you automatically start watching that game.

Please let us know which mentioned possible features you like (like I did at post #14) and suggest some of your own.

I will create the bracket on January 12 (also if the suggestions didn't get enough votes by then), so please give +1's before next Sunday.

If you can come up with anything on lichess that isn't particularly useful, or could be done better we'd (or at least "I'd") like to hear it.

lichess has had a lot of features added to it, and the site has moved away from it's simpler roots. In private I've been discussing ways to minimise the footprint of the site. You can read this if you want:

I think that the different approach to time stats is particularly useful/interesting. The orange indicator next to 'Board Editor' means that you are in editing mode.

The advantage of this design is that it uses significantly less space and brings the menu items into direct view. It makes especially makes it easier to catch catch cheaters as inspecting multiple games and looking at the time stats will be significantly easier.

Different approaches can be taken, such as putting the tabs beneath the view window so the analysis graph is closer to the board.

I haven't included the bookmark or link to the game in some of these designs, but they can be located next to the 'Board Editor' and 'Continue From Here' buttons.
I'm delighted that the 'extra competitions' (in which our own www.worldchessleague.co.uk was used as an example) has proven so successful.

I'm the owner of the WCL, I've run many competitions in different sports over the last 20 years or so, and I'd be delighted to chat to Thibault or whoever about ideas for a lichess league...
