Drawn game

And it's especially absurd when they have no grasp whatsoever of the rule and demand that the "bug" be "fixed."
to be honest though threefold repetition is a really stupid rule, if its not consecutive then I see no reason why to make the game a draw

To prevent lengthy games without any progress?

If you have exactly the same position after 10 moves and then again after 20, it shows even more that neither player has an idea how to make progress than when it is consecutive. So in my opinion the rule would be more stupid if it had to be consecutive.
But anyway - it is useless to discuss whether a rule of chess is stupid or not. This site is for chess just the way how the rules are, not how some people may think the rules might be "cleverer".
I really like the way Lichess handles this rule. You can choose your settings to force yourself to claim the draw if you want to (and, correctly, allowing you to do this before making the move which repeats position for the third time so that the opponent can't quickly reply before you claim), or to claim automatically, possibly only when you have less than 30 seconds left.
