So according to that logic Carlsen isn't number 1, right? Or that he doesn't deserve it?
That goes against your thinking.
Think it again!

@jg777
That's your way of thinking. I am not opposing yours, rather putting mine forward.
Don't force others into believing you.

So, why are they called coach?
Or
How would you define a coach instead?

Coach is defined as an instructor or trainer in sport.example
"a football coach" (source google)

I am asking you specifically and not Google!
What do you think 'personally'?
And I was saying that credit for Carlsen to be highest rated should go to his coach and not him, that's my main point for which I am debating.

That's why I am debating, don't you get it?
I like the idea, it seems to me that if it makes sense, also the lower-ranked players would appreciate it
The idea is nice in principle but there are a few problems.

1. How will you support the site? Will there be ads? Some people may not like ads.

2. It will appear to be free, but in reality many coaches will use the site to try to get paying students. I am not saying they should not earn their living by coaching. I am just saying that many people won't have the motivation to help others and be helped by others. What if someone starts mentoring you and then after 1-2 sessions expects you to go to them privately? (On the other hand, I know some language exchange sites are successful. So I don't want to be negative.)

3. A 1600 rated player might be willing to help a 1300 rates player, and a 2200 rated player might help an 1800 rated player. But would a 2400-2500 rated player be interested in helping a 2200 rated player? Who will help the 2400 rated player?

4. This kind of informal mentoring can happen here on lichess, and possibly already happens. Also it is much more transparent if some players here say on their profile that they coach students, and some even say what their fees are. That is fine, and of course many of them deserve to be paid for their work.

> It's a fantastic idea and one I'm presently doing in the Chess.com club I participate in. Not everyone has money for coaching and others may enjoy teaching chess or using it to gain credibility as a coach if they think they'd like to pursue coaching down the road. Furthermore, coaching really helps you master the material you're teaching, which can (and does for me) improves my own game alongside those I'm mentoring. There are so many players who get interested in chess, try to learn it, get lost and frustrated, and give up. I see it on the Chess.com forums all the time. A helping hand to get them on the road to learning chess could go a long way to promote the game in general, which benefits all Chess players. I fully support collaborative learning efforts!

Hi, which club do you belong to? I'd like to take a look.
