Surprise loss on time

I've just lost a game on timeout. The funny thing is that, on my screen, it was still the opponent's turn and they eventually "timed out" while I still had 16s left. So naturally I thought I had won.

I did think it was a bit odd since the next move wasn't tricky: they could win the exchange. But I'd still be easily winning (Stockfish says +7.7) so I assumed they were letting their clock run out; a fairly common behavior.

I assume I got disconnected. But I wonder why there's no indication of disconnection on the UI. FWIW I was playing via the app (Android) with zen mode on.
Disconnected, lagging, same difference... My question is, can't the client detect that and let the user know?
It's not the same difference; I eventually keep lagging sometimes, yet it doesn't say ''disconnected''.
Your ping is around 300-350 ms if you're lagging and if you're disconnected, it's 10000 ms.
