Why do players play so fast?

I play 15 minute chess here quite frequently, usually with a 5 or 10 second increment. I find that it gives me enough time to think, but not so long that I have wasted away an hour on a single game.

Often the players I face blitz out their moves like they are playing 5-0 chess. Why? My last opponent had 13.5 minutes left out of his 15 and made a couple critical errors when he could have spent a good minute or two thinking about really key positions.

So why so fast? There appears to be no benefit and only bad things can happen.
I think it's just because a time advantage to most players feels like an advantage, even if they're in a losing position. If their opponent is spending a long time on moves and they're up a good 5 minutes or so then they feel that, even if they're worse, they can still grind out a win on time. Or, they might just be waiting until you make a blunder to capitalize on it, with the time advantage on their side.
They may have an upper hand. Some players move fast because they are strong players and are giving you ample time to make mistakes.
It's true and I don't get it. Most people playing 15+15 as if it were blitz. Now I'm almost 2000 at classical with little opening knowledge, average tactics and some of the worst endings out there. But if I need to spend 3-5 minutes in a single movement I do it.

I suppose it is because they don't like time pressure but are also quite impatience.

This is something that I used to struggle with but have gotten better about. I think, at least for lower ratings, it has to do with the lack of calculation. If they consider a move, and it doesn't blunder a piece or lose to an obvious tactic then it's good enough.

I tend to be one of these...

I'ts more about boredom and dopamine...

You get so used to playing 1+0 3+0 ultrabullet etc... that you tend to play very fast and you can't wait till the other player makes a move because you sort of have an addiction to play/win quickly & make the next move asap.

It depends on the mode you're in...

I do like to play long games and take my time too... but if it's late in the evening and I'm somewhat bored and tired I don't like to think too long about moves and just play.. if that makes sense.

That's why we have ultra bullet, lol... it's more about adrenaline that actually using brains and stuff... altough both is kinda cool, lol.
Sometimes I try to play fast in classical games too, which is a good training for me ;)
