Too few Crazyhouse arenas

#39 It shows no such thing. What it does show is that the popularity of Crazyhouse is increasing as measured by the number of people who play the yearly tournament.

I will take an educated guess at your definition of 'the top variant' as being the one that the most people play. Here are this week's figures (as of the time of writing):

14,214 Crazyhouse players this week.
13,799 Atomic players this week.
13,061 Antichess players this week.
11,133 Chess960 players this week.
9,162 Three-check players this week.
7,456 Horde players this week.
5,430 Racing Kings players this week.

Note especially that this is despite the number of Crazyhouse tournaments having been significantly reduced, while the number of King of the Hill tournaments has significantly increased.

Your question was "what about the other variants with more popularity?"

My answer is "Variants? Plural? And which variants would these be?"
Few more announcements:

- After a chat with @pepellou we decided this sounds like a better address for the bookmarkable page: iwantzh.github.io/
Please use that instead of the old one.
- Thanks @Marlonc for all testing and promoting. Some of the problems with overlaps come because the official tournaments have weird duration of 57 minutes. So I wanted to create the custom ones to start right at the same time the official ends and be 63 minutes long to not leave useless 3min gaps. However lichess doesn't allow custom tournaments to be any weird number of minutes so the closest i got was 70. Maybe will go with 60 mins with 3 min gaps instead in next batch
- Gaps without tournaments also can exist. One reason is because i messed up something. Another is because I cannot figure out why lichess would occasionally stop processing api requests with error message saying "too many requests". I am too lazy to look in lichess code and cannot deduce any regularity for why and in what conditions this happens, based on experience so far - if anyone has a clue - pitch in.
- I still hope lichess would create hourly tournaments for zh the way it was until not long ago. Not because clearly zh is without a doubt one of the most popular variants, based on all kind of objective metrics, but also because the most normal thing to do is have hourly tournaments for ALL variants and not just zh.
This time I ended up adding it to my reading list rather than my bookmarks. That's Chrome for you...

UPDATE: I can't see what you changed with that last edit. Not the link I hope, because it seems to work.
#41 Antichess and Chess960.
I used your table because you showed it. I'd normally use the weekly players too.
#44 I didn't show the table, my friend did (and made a valid point in so doing)

And I gave you the weekly players that you say you would normally use.

So, is there anything further?
Upvoted just for the marvelous spreadsheet the OP gave us :)
Hello again fellow ZH players,

What?

I am glad to announce:
- The first (stable) release of "I Want ZH" 1.0 App: iwantzh.github.io/list.html and iwantzh.github.io
- And the NEW regular Undeground ZH Hourly Arenas: lichess.org/@/undergroundzh1/tournaments/created and lichess.org/@/undergroundzh2/tournaments/created

----------

When?

24/7

17 new hourly tournaments covering, together with what is lest from lichess zh tournaments, the whole day. Seven days a week. At all times an active zh tournament ready for anyone to join.

Enjoy responsibly! Warning: ZH leads to addiction!

----------

But why?

Since lichess cut down 2/3 of the hourly zh arenas, we were advised to organized our own.

But how to promote them???

Lichess front page does not show such arenas. The tournaments timetable also would not include them. How other zh players can then find out about what tournaments are available at what time?

Enter "I Want ZH" App:

1) A list of all community organized tournaments can be found here: iwantzh.github.io/list.html

The list includes all ZH tournaments currently organized by:
- lichess.org - the so called "official" (or what is left of them)
- @TheFinnisher 's Elite Tournaments
- @ofbc_nigeria 's Nations Teams
- @cybershredder 's Team Battle
- And the newly created @undergroundzh1 and @undergroundzh2 "Underground ZH Hourly" Arenas that are meant to replace the missing 2/3 hourly arenas that were recently removed by lichess.org

If you go to that page, you will see in the list the start time, time control and all relevant details of above tournaments and a link to join. Of course always open for more suggestions what other tournaments can be added.

2) A quick link that will automatically redirect you to the first tournament in that list (the most recent/currently running one): iwantzh.github.io

Useful to keep as a bookmark you can click at any time and be redirected automatically to whatever is the currently running tournament - active 24/7.

Currently only redirecting to either the Underground ZH Hourly Arenas or the official hourly/daily/weekly/monthy ones by lichess.org. Whichever one is currently running - They are supposed to cover all 24 hours of the day 7 days a week, but disruptions might happen.

Maybe in the future will add the other tournaments mentioned above in iwantzh.github.io/list.html to the automatic redirect as well, but at the moment too much of a pain to set up complicated schedules for different days of the week or the month. Also not sure how relevant some of those tournaments are to everybody since some are limited by rating or by whether or not one is part of a team. As usual open to ideas.

Who?

First big thanks to everyone who for the past 1 week, tested the app, promoted it and the tournaments and/or at least participated in the new hourly arenas (however empty they might have been at times - thanks for joining, chatting, playing and trying to make it work).

Especially @Marlonc, @Skeftomilos, @SacDatSht, @Zaraza, but also @charliehorse55, @abr-ya, @fgalla, @kirekachesschamp, @Chessboardbreaker, @szura, @JoannaTries, @talldove, @Morlockk, @ywng, @DoneDane1974. Apologies if missing someone.

Everyone who misses the old hourly tournaments, please tell your friends, parents, neighbours. Spread the word, spam streams, call the newspapers.

Influencers, streamers, community leaders ( @JoannaTries , @okei , @pepellou , @kleerkast , @mugwort , @jannlee , anyone else i am missing), if you like the idea, the app or the tournaments - please promote them.

Developers (@pepellou, others?), the app and scripts for creating the "underground" tournaments is hosted at github.com/iwantzh/ . App uses vue.js. The script for creating the hourly tournaments is in bash (i hate bash).

My expertise is neither in front-end/web/ui/js/html/css development nor in bash, so any tip or ideas are more than welcome - always happy to learn more. So assume all code is kind of quick-n-dirty state and welcomes refactoring. Also I have zero experience with github so any tips on what is the usual development workflow and how a project is maintained there is much appreciated. But more than anything - if you like the ideas behind it - pitch in with whatever you think you can.

------

See you at wherever iwantzh.github.io redirect you to!
