Cannot view challenges with screen reader

Something has fairly recently changed, and blind players using a screen reader can no longer click on challenges in order to see pending challenges.
If the player is on the site when the challenge is sent, they can jump right to the accept button, but otherwise, no dice.
There is a Github request for labeling both the challenges and notifications, and making them actual links, but now this has become a more serious problem, since players get a number showing they have pending challenges, but cannot click them at all.
Not sure what has changed, or when it changed, but would be great if this funtionality were restored, and even better if these could be turned into labeled proper links.
, As a stopgap, might there be a URL for viewing challenges in the meantime?
Thanks for any help.
Thanks... I'll help bring this bug to Lichess staff's attention.

(I assume it happens in whatever popular browser you are using.)
Correct. And I've tried it with three screen readers, same issue across the board, thanks.
I had this problem a long time ago when I used chrome. After I changed to firefox I never had any issue at all. All works perfectly well with NVDA and firefox.
This is correct, it does work with Firefox, but not with Chrome or Edge.
Is there a setting that can be changed in the chromium browsers to enable clicking on the challenges and notifications? Most blind users I know use either Chrome or Edge, and having to switch to Firefox isn' t an ideal solution.
I don't know how to test this... years ago to assist a blind person playing Pokemon Crystal Access, I installed NVDA Screen Reader. I guess I need to install FIrefox and see how a screen reader works with Lichess?
