Suggestion : add a picture and country in the player profile

It would be great if one have the possibility to put his picture in the profile. The gameplay is nicer when you can figure out your opponent, as in real life !

If you were to implement that, suddenly against all odds, we would find out that 90% of the Lichess members actually turn out to be gorgeous Swedish women.

Looking at this suggestion I wonder why we don't have this option already.

Pro:

It would be a nice option to have in the profile section, since it would allow for more personalisation.
Using this image on the forums would allow for people to recognize at a glace who is commenting.
Even if FM NobodyReally turns out to be right, the world would still improve with more pictures of "gorgeous Swedish women".

Con:

People can use images that are in some way offensive to others.

Overall from my experiance on forums, games and others where this feature is available, the con is not too heavy since nearly everyone picks something they find can represent them.

In conclusion I would very much like to see this feature :)

I agree, it would be really nice if we could have a profile picture. But what happens if people use pictures that aren't of them, but instead have, for example, their favorite video game characters?

I disagree. There's no need for this, I don't think. If you want to be seen so badly, put links to your social media or to a picture in your "Biography". Profile pictures wouldn't really match lichess style, in my opinion.

@DoTheMath : what would be cool is having the picture of your opponent apparent during the game. You do not have the same result if you put a link to a social media in your biography.

I really would like to have the option of profile pictures. It would make
Lichess seem more like a community rather than a gaming connection.

How about just using user's gravatar.
