For example, if I want to turn on premoves during a game, can I go to Game Behavior, make the change, and return to the game? Would navigating away from the game trigger the abandoned game "Claim Victory" and "Claim Draw" options for my opponent?

You can do that easily by opening another tab and changing the settings.When you come back to the game,you will need to refresh the page to apply new settings.
But if you still want to go away from the game to change the setting,you have to do it quickly.15 seconds away from game,and then your opponent can claim the win.
Great, thanks for the help risky-chess. I tried it today with the different tab method and it worked. I actually didn't even need to refresh the page, but will try that in the future if the changes aren't applied automatically.
