Can't turn chat off in blind mode during tournaments

Hi all, I was in a sanctioned USCF tournament today, and couldn't concentrate due to lots of chat.
Unfortunately, I don't see a labeled button to turn chat off, and it is a major problem for folks using screen readers, as every time chat updates, it reads out loud.
Can this be made an accessible button or setting in blind mode? Perhaps even a command line switch?
Much thanks for any help on this one.
Is there somewhere else I can post this issue?
Most issues with blind mode are somewhat frustrating, and most can be worked around with a little effort, but this one makes playing in tournaments very unfair to blind players, and I think it should be easily fixed, relatively speaking.
Thanks much.

press z for zen mode
Thanks very much for that.
I have now tried this while in a puzzle, I assume it will behave the same while in a tournament.
For my fellow blind screen reader users, to toggle Zen mode during a tournament:
Turn your virtual cursor off or jump out of browse mode, then press escape, then press Z.
You will get no immediate feedback, but now you should be in Zen mode, which hides opponent rating and other items on the page, but most importantly should mute chat.
Once you turn Zen mode on, you can perform the same steps to turn it off, for instance if you are between rounds and wish to chat.
Alternatively, when Zen mode is on, there is a link near the top that says Zen mode, activating this link will turn it off.
Appreciate the suggestion very much, and I will be adding this to the blind users guide.
