Unfair decision

I can to a certain extent understand why some people complain about those endgames being a win instead of a draw when the time runs out (even though I disagree).

What I can't understand is why those same people never complain about this being a win:

it's because helpmate possibility as a decision whether it wins or not (lost on time) somehow contradicts point #3
#8 Your opponent had two *days* to move and didn't move?

#11 I agree

#3 I have spent hours thinking about the simplest way to check for this condition without causing the server to catch fire. I will continue thinking about how to improve this.
#11 I can give you an answer: OTB in Standard and Rapid black can indeed stop the clock, call the arbiter and claim a draw in this position because of insufficien winning chances.

In Blitz, as I think, the rules has been simplified to "One single piece can't mate". I think the reason is that all these draw cases shown on FIDE Online Arenas page are extremely unlikely to appear and taking these into account complicates the rules very much.

However it's maybe a matter of what players are used to. Keeping lichess rules similar to FIDE can have an advantage of consistency.
#14 Toadofsky, if you find a way to identify dead positions you are a genius. You can sell the solution to FIDE because their server can't handle them. First one who's time run out loses.
#16 In almost all positions where mate is possible, a capture is also possible. Therefore I think a possible idea is:
1. Remove the White king and "flood-fill" to determine what Black can capture/hang**
2. Remove the Black king and "flood-fill" to determine what White can capture/hang**
3. If neither player can capture anything, the game is drawn

**note that a capture can cause stalemate, so exclude such captures (such as Kxf1 which is only possible with White's king on h1):

For me its always just whichever person who runs out of time loses...
In blitz, time is also a piece, if you lose it, your king has a heart attack and you lose.
