Black Moves First

My name is Tafadzwa Katiyo the founder of ToseSonke (together-we are stronger), a non-profit organization committed to bringing children and adults from different socio-economic backgrounds and abilities together to promote inclusion in our communities.

ToseSonke invites you to participate in the “Black” Moves First, silent Chess awareness campaign against racism and violence. We call on the chess community to reserve this day so that all in-person games or those via chess platforms will be reconfigured so that black moves first. In addition, we will be hosting a Black Moves First global chess tournament hosted via African Chess Lounge on June 13th, 2020.

The tournament will accommodate up to 10,000 participants (Children and adults are eligible to participate). Our goal is to get as many social media posts with a screenshot of the participant’s games and #BlackMovesFirst @africanchesslounge @tosesonke and any other partners. We believe this will show how the chess community stands behind unity and inclusion.
