  1. CubesAndPi right now I'm worried that both d pawns will fall so I'm hoping to grab the b pawn as compensation
  2. CubesAndPi but honestly Qb6 seems awfully pawn grabby and greedy
  3. CubesAndPi maybe instead I can try to route the knight over to c6 and then restore my pawn chain with dxc6
  4. CubesAndPi yea 9... Qb6 seems to be going to the wrong path. King safety first, then worry about trying to hold on to these pawns
  5. CubesAndPi Nc4 looks rather serious
  6. electricbutter 10 Nd2 is a little sneaky, I'm trying to prompt Qb6 then play Nc4
  7. electricbutter if QxB5 then Nd6+ wins the queen
  8. CubesAndPi maybe 10... 0-0 11. Nc4 a6 is a refutation
  9. electricbutter OK, this concludes my prep. I'm on my own from this point onwards.
  10. CubesAndPi [11] I think it looks slightly worse for me right now but things could get really messy if white doesn't address Qb6 correctly
  11. electricbutter (12) I'm thinking of plans that involve Rc1, and eventually trapping the queen. But I need to take the sting out of Qb6 it seems.
  12. electricbutter (12..) if Qb6, I have Nc5; if Nc6, I feel like I can play Bc4? if a6, I'm thinking again Bc4, if b6 Rc1
  13. BrikNJ electricbutter got the exact position he wanted. prepped for this well :)
  14. BrikNJ have to make sure white bishop doesnt get trapped
  15. CubesAndPi got too focused on Bc4 rather than Nc4. I need some space big time so hopefully there's no tactical blow here
  16. BrikNJ 14 Ne5 looks strong
  17. electricbutter (13..) now i have to find the antidote to a6; my lsb doesn't have that many squares
  18. electricbutter I can just assert dominance by repeating
  19. electricbutter soviet style
  20. Unavitadistenti what about Rac1?
  21. BrikNJ Rac1 a6 and bishop is trapped
  22. BrikNJ have to solve that problem first
  23. electricbutter (13..) I wonder whether I have enough tempi to play Rc1 now, Rc1 a6 Ne5 BxNe5 and the queen needs luft, so d6
  24. CubesAndPi currently calculating 14 Nd5 Bxd5 Bxd5 a6 Bc4 D5 exd5 b5 then after bishop moves Qxd5 to get the pawn back
  25. BrikNJ Rac1 a6 Ba4 b5
  26. electricbutter and i seemingly win the exchange
  27. electricbutter want to calculate before i commit to the move
  28. BrikNJ wow lol he is answering both of us
  29. Unavitadistenti I was looking at Rac1 a6 Ne5 too
  30. Unavitadistenti it's almost like he can read the chat
  31. BrikNJ thats a crazy sequence wow
  32. BrikNJ it might work
  33. Unavitadistenti I think after Ne5 you can just play Nc6 as black
  34. BrikNJ no the bishop seems lost to me at the end of th eline
  35. Unavitadistenti it look so tempting though
  36. electricbutter calculation (14:) Rc1 a6 Ne5 BxNe5 BxBe5 Qa5 and the queen seems to be running towards her freedom? Now Bc1 is met by b6
  37. BrikNJ but Ne5 Nc6 then Bxc6
  38. BrikNJ hmm
  39. Unavitadistenti but he's always threatening to trap the queen with Bc7 if the rook is on c1
  40. Unavitadistenti so i don't think you can take the bishop... but i could easily be wrong
  41. BrikNJ Ne5 Nc6 then Nxc6
  42. BrikNJ I really think developing the rook might gain white most iniative
  43. BrikNJ down a pawn rn cannot play passively
  44. Unavitadistenti im really trying to keep myself from evaluating this with an engine
  45. CubesAndPi maybe whit has some tempo saving move like Ba4 here since I can't play a6 without tempo
  46. BrikNJ I dont agree with 14 Nd2. Black gains position by playing Nc6
  47. BrikNJ but black repeated
  48. CubesAndPi [14] I think I have to repeat? can't see what else to do against Bc4
  49. Unavitadistenti I wonder if that will prompt white to think about a more aggressive plan
  50. BrikNJ lol watch electricbutter take the draw here for the free points
  51. Unavitadistenti I wouldn't blame him but this position is so interesting
  52. Unavitadistenti I could not keep myself from playing it and losing it just as quickly
  53. BrikNJ playing down a pawn is hard, lots of pressure
  54. wfire what about Nf3 Ng5?
  55. wfire after e5
  56. BrikNJ e5 pawn is weak. Black moves knight and has two attackers on the pawn
  57. BrikNJ especially Nf5 threatening DSB is annoying
  58. electricbutter OK, let's unleash the fireworks, I think I can win a pawn
  59. BrikNJ pogchamp
  60. Unavitadistenti let's goooo
  61. BrikNJ black must be confused if they didnt see this, I expect a 10 minute think
  62. electricbutter Oh, wait I think I missed Qxb5... Oh well, It's gonna be a rook for two bishops in the worst case provided he finds the correct contin*
  63. CubesAndPi gotta make sure there's no Bc7 funny business here
  64. BrikNJ 20 f4 and position looks fine?
  65. CubesAndPi untangled and up a pawn now but at the cost of a weak b pawn and tons of dark square weaknesses on my kingside
  66. BrikNJ might be losing another pawn though not sure ugh
  67. Unavitadistenti Rfd1 and how does black defent d4?
  68. Unavitadistenti defend
  69. BrikNJ Im looking at 20...Qe7 Bxd4 Qxe4 Bc3 and white position looks strong but still a pawn down
  70. BrikNJ as long as queens are on the board Id take white
  71. electricbutter I think black now has a clean pawn, oh well, live and learn
  72. BrikNJ looks like theyre playing out my variation
  73. Unavitadistenti yep
  74. wfire what about Qc3
  75. BrikNJ instead of Bc3 though electricbutter strikes more a Qc3 type of guy
  76. wfire prep for Re1 and Bh8
  77. wfire darn thought Qc3 was really strong
  78. wfire theres Qg4 if black wants
  79. BrikNJ Qc7?
  80. BrikNJ oooh I like this more
  81. BrikNJ Qf6 threat
  82. wfire but Re6
  83. BrikNJ Re6 rn walks into mate
  84. wfire oh right lol
  85. BrikNJ dark square weaknesses galore
  86. BrikNJ so textbook
  87. BrikNJ every single black piece on a light square
  88. electricbutter i don't like be6 stopping all counterplay; crossing fingers that he doesn't play that
  89. BrikNJ b6 Qxc6?
  90. electricbutter though i wonder whether i can start gobbling pawns in the queen side after that?
  91. BrikNJ whats the problem
  92. BrikNJ actually b6 Qf6 maybe
  93. BrikNJ Qd4 now?
  94. BrikNJ nice
  95. BrikNJ I think black takes and enjoys the long term position advantage
  96. BrikNJ *white
  97. electricbutter if we exchange the pawn I should at least have some advantage, all his pawns are on light squares
  98. Unavitadistenti oh I don't like Be6 by black, i would have rather kept the option of playing Re2 open
  99. electricbutter ... crticisizes opponent for having all his pawns on light squares, proceeds to put all his pawns on dark squares... typical electricbutt
  100. electricbutter *er
  101. BrikNJ yeah but it does connect the rooks and gives black a tempo
  102. BrikNJ your g-pawn is on a light square :^)
  103. BrikNJ hope he fights for the e-file (29)
  104. BrikNJ nice
  105. Black offers draw
  106. BrikNJ looking like a draw now
  107. BrikNJ opposite colored bishops
  108. White declines draw
  109. electricbutter I have the better pawns, I would like to play on for a little though, I feel like this should be dead drawn
  110. electricbutter also, can my king just gobble up his king side pawns?
  111. electricbutter i feel like his king is prohibiting his bishop from helping in the king side?
  112. wfire Kf4?
  113. Unavitadistenti i wonder if this is going somewhere
  114. BrikNJ black misplaying this i feel
  115. Unavitadistenti i wonder if white could try to mobilize his majority
  116. BrikNJ His king is much more active and in the center of the board. Time to push em baby
  117. BrikNJ g4 h4
  118. electricbutter 36.. i feel like if my king were to now head to the queen side, white cannot stop me?
  119. BrikNJ noooo WSB defends
  120. BrikNJ wrong way ;_;
  121. BrikNJ go back
  122. BrikNJ Ke5 and I think white is still better
  123. electricbutter 42.. ok so now the plan is to play in the king side
  124. electricbutter if i can keep his king from helping the queen side, i should be fine?
  125. BrikNJ woah Be8 seems like a blunder?
  126. Unavitadistenti g takes h?
  127. BrikNJ gxh5 gxh5 h4 and white has a passed f pawn black has to worry about
  128. electricbutter if i can park my pawn on g6 and my bishop and f6 i feel like i should be standing good
  129. BrikNJ Kg8? black playing strange
  130. electricbutter ok now , i feel advantageous
  131. electricbutter if i get to play g5 and Bf6, I'm looking very solid
  132. electricbutter or is that even the right idea? need to think
  133. Unavitadistenti Ke7?
  134. BrikNJ god its still a draw isnt it
  135. BrikNJ wait Kc5?
  136. BrikNJ how does black defend b pawn
  137. BrikNJ nvm Be8
  138. Unavitadistenti oh i would have never considered 48. g5
  139. BrikNJ idk, no progress can be made imo
  140. electricbutter I'm not sure about 48 g5; I feel like my better pawn is the f pawn, since f8 is a dark square
  141. electricbutter but this feels super solid
  142. Unavitadistenti black is never in zugzwang because they can shuffle Kg8 Kh7 i guess
  143. BrikNJ maybe Bb4 to limit squares
  144. Unavitadistenti oh wait no, the Bishop has to be protected
  145. BrikNJ if Ke7 just Bf7 again
  146. Unavitadistenti what
  147. electricbutter oh, he can do that
  148. electricbutter lol
  149. Black offers draw
  150. Unavitadistenti what is happening, i am so confused
  151. Draw offer accepted
  152. BrikNJ xD
  153. BrikNJ gg
  154. Unavitadistenti gg
  155. electricbutter I got lucky, I think Rc1 was a blunder
  156. electricbutter in hindsight
  157. BrikNJ very small blunder
  158. BrikNJ an inaccuracy tbh
  159. electricbutter Oh, the computer doesn't hate it
  160. electricbutter strange
  161. CubesAndPi kinda lost the edge though, I think I was feeling really under the pressure until Rc1
  162. CubesAndPi Qg4 was also played way too fast from me
  163. BrikNJ how is Ba3 winning on move 16
  164. electricbutter Note to self: when you use preparation, prepare deeper
  165. electricbutter also, both 16 centipawn loss
  166. BrikNJ gonna be lowest centipawn loss game wow
  167. CubesAndPi It's a clearance for Nd6 to really squeeze me I think
  168. electricbutter dawn
  169. electricbutter *damn
  170. CubesAndPi looks like I got lost a bit in the opening, I wasn't expecting a rosolimo so after e5 I was more or less on my own
  171. electricbutter :)
  172. BrikNJ disgusting engine line with 16. f4 wow
  173. electricbutter First game in the tourney where I didn't blunder a piece like a dummy
  174. CubesAndPi yea f4 is certified engine stuff right there. Just squeezing the absolute shit out of black
  175. CubesAndPi reinforces e5 and just reminds black that their lsb is useless
  176. electricbutter I was expecting 18... Qa5
  177. CubesAndPi no that loses on the spot because f7 is still tender
  178. electricbutter Ya, did not see Nc6
  179. CubesAndPi wait sorry
  180. CubesAndPi I was thinking 17
  181. CubesAndPi mhm I was lucky to have found Nc6, I didn't see it until a ton of thought after Rc1
  182. electricbutter the line I computed was 18... Na5 19. Bc5 Qxe5 Bxe7+ Qf3
  183. BrikNJ wow Qa5 wins whites DSB but Bxf7+ then Qf3 and white has a strong attack
  184. electricbutter Ya... I was looking forward to see that on the board
  185. electricbutter Nc6 caught me by surprise, nice resource
  186. CubesAndPi I really didn't like Qa5 when I first took a look because I felt that I had to get your bishop pair off the board at all costs
  187. CubesAndPi *not the bishop pair, but rather the LSB
  188. CubesAndPi well, good game, it was an exciting one!
  189. electricbutter Ya, I'm following you, we should do a rematch sometime
  190. electricbutter Nice to play with a fellow Waterlooser :)
  191. electricbutter I think I saw it in your profile
  192. CubesAndPi haha no way are you from waterloo?
  193. electricbutter ya
  194. CubesAndPi Nice! I'll follow back and hit you up some time for more games
