  1. JoeyMellberg assume this is all standard qgd stuff, but i dont think ive ever seen this position before
  2. colwem 5. Be7 is I think the most common move.
  3. colwem 5... Nd7 is a nice trap cause it looks like white can play Nxd5 cause knight's pinned.
  4. colwem But that loses to Nxd5 Bxd8 Bb4+ Qd2 Bxd2 Kxd8 and black is up a piece.
  5. colwem I like 6...Bf5 when I play this as white I think I play Qc2 to stop it.
  6. colwem Move 8, this is the kind of decision I would struggle with. don't want to move that bishop again. Prides on the line. But don't have a wa
  7. colwem way of protecting. So take and develop his queen for free. But also get the better bishop.
  8. colwem Pros and cons, how to evaluate???
  9. mathijshuis Yeah I think this is a good move
  10. JoeyMellberg not sure about this, but wanted to try and save the lsb. and while fx would have kept alive the possibibility of straigtening out my pawn
  11. JoeyMellberg structure in the event of Bxf6, opening up the h file seems decent compensation
  12. JoeyMellberg particularly now he's castled kingside
  13. mathijshuis 11. Qc7 looks good here to me
  14. JoeyMellberg crude plan, double the rooks on the h file and Ng4 or something
  15. JoeyMellberg guessing his plan has to involve some sort of pawn storm down the qside, but i think it's slow enough i could hold it (he says)
  16. JoeyMellberg so guessing h5 for the rook, might help to hold d5 in some lines
  17. JoeyMellberg ok, so do i allow b5, or play that myself... leaning towards just carry on my attack with Rdh8
  18. colwem Man I feel like I've played this game.
  19. JoeyMellberg so, a big question for my patzer brain, does the rook sacc work... or do i just move my knight away and push the g pawn
  20. JoeyMellberg or am i missing something else... that rook sac though...
  21. ErinYu Rook sacs never work
  22. ErinYu Except when they do
  23. ErinYu Am I lovlas yet?
  24. JoeyMellberg screw it, you only live once
  25. mathijshuis brave man
  26. ErinYu I wonder about 20.Ne3
  27. JoeyMellberg oh jeez
  28. mathijshuis I feel like 20. Rxf3 was a mistake
  29. JoeyMellberg totally thought Qh2 was mating...
  30. JoeyMellberg dont drink and chess people
  31. JoeyMellberg well that's going to haunt me
  32. JoeyMellberg resignable now?
  33. JoeyMellberg thanks for the game jervaelski
  34. jervaelski Thanks for the game Joe
  35. jervaelski Joey
  36. mathijshuis gg
  37. JoeyMellberg far too good for me - how are you only 1393?!? I've been hustled! ;-)
  38. jervaelski Haha, I am going over the game now and I seems I got lucky after move 18 you were close to winning!
  39. jervaelski I thought I was going to lose for sure at that point. Seemed like you made a blunder that turned the game around
  40. JoeyMellberg yeah i totally messed up there, i'd calculated that line and thought Qh2 was mating, totally missed you had f1 to hide the king on
  41. JoeyMellberg blunder or not your waaaaaay under rated dude, you were way above me there - nicely done!
  42. jervaelski Well I didn't feel that way, but thanks :)
  43. jervaelski Never felt comfortable until you blundered the piece
  44. JoeyMellberg looking at the analysis, i was only slightly better at that point, and it was all built around a very flimsy attack
  45. jervaelski Move 20 you are -7.3
  46. JoeyMellberg oh aye
  47. jervaelski At that point with all your pieces pointing at my king I was sure it was goign to be over soon
  48. JoeyMellberg i think nge5 is a hard move for anyone under 1500 to find
  49. JoeyMellberg no way i'd ever see that
  50. jervaelski My plan was to storm the pawns over to your side and try to open your queen side. Felt pretty good. But then with Ng4 I felt like everything
  51. jervaelski changed and I suddenly was completely out of control
  52. JoeyMellberg just the fact you saw that mate shows how much above my level you are
  53. JoeyMellberg very nicely found
  54. jervaelski I saw the open file and back rank but had to take care of the diagonal first. Was a long shot but it worked out.
  55. JoeyMellberg like nge5, i'd never have seen that in a million years - lovely play
  56. jervaelski Where is nge5?
  57. jervaelski Ah to defend the bank rank
  58. JoeyMellberg instead of my blunder rxf3 the engine says nge5 to kick your queen
  59. jervaelski Ah
  60. JoeyMellberg or just allow dx so the g4 square is free for my queen
  61. JoeyMellberg there just moves that are beyond my level
  62. JoeyMellberg anyway, thanks for the game man, good luck for the rest of the season, `you'll be board 7 or above next season im sure!
  63. jervaelski THanks for the game, this is only me 2nd in the league so we'll see, good luck and take caree
