  1. DiscoverChex the main break in the grand prix is f4 when playing it as black
  2. HakonJ right, and you'd want to have that supported by e5 often
  3. HakonJ so by playing 1...e5 you get that in early, instead of e6-e5, which you often have to do with the dutch
  4. DiscoverChex Yeah
  5. HakonJ maybe I need to focus on an early d4 as a counter myself?
  6. DiscoverChex The video I watched said that d3 is the best response
  7. HakonJ aha
  8. DiscoverChex So I think you played it pretty well, 10 cpl is no joke
  9. HakonJ Well it was only 13 moves, but yeah, I'm still pretty happy :)
  10. HakonJ thanks
  11. HakonJ I'm becoming familiar with the different pawn structures in the english
  12. DiscoverChex I like the way the english plays, I usually play it when Im not playing d4 instead
  13. DiscoverChex very flexible
  14. HakonJ A late d4 is usually pretty difficult, and it can backfire
  15. HakonJ so I was hesitant, and thought d3 was more solid
  16. DiscoverChex d3 is the way to go against this reversed grand prix if you ever see it again
  17. HakonJ yes, flexible, but difficult to judge what pawn structure to aim for against the different responses
  18. HakonJ I'll definitely remember that
  19. DiscoverChex d3 you can also go into the botvinnik system too
  20. HakonJ with e4?
  21. DiscoverChex yeah
  22. HakonJ right. I haven't studied that too much
  23. HakonJ I'm generally not too big on openings
  24. DiscoverChex against moves where you dont know theory just go into botvinnik lol
  25. DiscoverChex botvinnik is kinda a system so you dont need to know moves
  26. DiscoverChex its e4 d3 c4 Nc3 g3 Bg2 Ne2 0-0
  27. DiscoverChex you will give your opponent a pretty sizable hole in d4 though
  28. HakonJ true
  29. HakonJ and you also kind of block the view of your bishop+
  30. HakonJ so are there some long term strategic ideas connected with the botvinnik system?
  31. HakonJ it seems a bit illogical to give up that square and block your bishop
  32. DiscoverChex dont know the ideas of it too much, I know it is a positional system I think usually white will focus on queenside play and control of the
  33. DiscoverChex light squares
  34. HakonJ right. I guess it's a way to prevent counterplay in the center with d5 maybe?
  35. HakonJ so you can more easily focus on flank play on the queenside?
  36. DiscoverChex yeah, I think white is usually ok with just devoting the LSB to defense with a usually quiet game happening
  37. HakonJ with c4, Bg2, e4 and the knight not on f3, you have massive control of d5
  38. DiscoverChex yeah, i havent played it much though I have seen some games where GMs play it
  39. DiscoverChex Ok, well Ill let you go I know its late
  40. HakonJ well, It's pretty late here, so I need to wrap it up
  41. HakonJ thanks for posting game links and results and all that
  42. DiscoverChex gg, Ill follow you maybe we can play again sometime!
  43. HakonJ and thanks for an interesting game
  44. HakonJ any time! :)
  45. DiscoverChex yup thanks, see ya
  46. HakonJ good luck with the last round
  47. HakonJ bye
  48. DiscoverChex you too! :D
  49. DiscoverChex bye
  50. Pasternak gg hakonj!
