Fat Fritz is not the Only Ripoff and now ChessBase is Getting Sued

High time that crooks in suits who steal with a smile are made to pay for their crimes.

What surprises me is that people take such a long time to detect fake engines like Houdini.

Stockfish is amazing open source and I am sure that they will win this case. A watershed moment for open source software. My best wishes with Stockfish, and delighted to see Lichess bringing this disgrace to light!
@idiote
Quite true.. Do you remember the Rybka "developer" fool claiming that he had solved the King's Gambit down to mate, as in winning for black after f4?

That is an astonishing insight into the buffoons who claim to write good chess engines
The headline is misleading and disingenuous. Fat Fritz is obviousoly not a rip-off and i am not happy that stockfish developers are wasting time in court instead of working on stockfish.
@NickUK1969

I definitely enjoy a lot of their software for sure. I understand you do get the interface but it's still a bit of money even including that and It kind of draws back to my previous point that I wish there was more focus on creating more affordable interfaces.

It's also only relevant the first time you purchase an engine (at least in a while) as do you really want to pay $50 to purchase something you already have (the fritz interface) every time you want to upgrade to a newer engine? It seems you'll have to switch over to free engines at some point anyways.

I love the chessbase software but that it costs as much as the entire Microsoft office suite (that includes like 7 programs that are actually useful in real life) is a little ugh to be honest.

I agree and I think we're arguing the same points.

Personally I don't use CB, and don't intend to. But I've worked in tech a long time and have seen plenty of times where someone has taken parts of someone elses work without credit to originator, or even go so far as to take whole credit for something that someone else did. Hell it's even happened to me internally at a previous employer where my line manager used work I'd done to make themselves look good to upper management without giving credit down, obviously my issues pale in comparison to situations like this though.

As you said legal issues aside it's a horrible and unethical thing to do.
ChessBase don't have good engines. So, they took the opportunity of lichess to pretend it was theirs. Please react to my message for this. Basically, Laugh on my reaction if you like Lichess. Put a Thumbs Down if you like ChessBase. I hate ChessBase.
I am so curious to know how the Stockfish team was able to discover their source code was being distributed by ChessBase, considering they concealed the code for Houdini and Fat Fritz.

Big thanks to Lichess for covering this story, and I'm also glad that the Stockfish team has the means and the willpower to take action on this.
Non-exhaustive list of reasons why Lichess is great:
-It is free for all.
...
-Uses one of the best engines, if not the best, there is.
-NEW! Gives users updates on such topics as this.
