Why is the London System so popular on Lichess, despite its bad performance at Master level?

Why would top players play a opening that is refutable according to you .Surely White doesnt play to draw (carlsen doesnt want to lose rating) Unless london is good to be used after all black is close to equalizing in all openings so liking position that arise from opening is more important
Especially in fast paced games it can be already a nice advantage on the clock to just shoot out the first 5-10 moves without thinking much.
Therefore systems like the London work well here I guess. Of course it is a completely different thing if you play it with long time controls OTB.
First of all London is very solid and you can blitz out at least 10 moves and get a comfortable middlegame. So, it is good for faster time controls (which explains the popularity of london at lichess). But the problem with london is that if black knows what he is doing, white may get no advantage at all. Thus masters don't play it too often.
Your talking as if ruy lopez or any othergives white advantage for whole game .. Carlsen equalized against ruy lopez Every single time .. liking arising position is much more important
London is good but only at 1700 otb level...If white wants play for win it’s useless unless black makes a mistake...I won’t prefer London if u want to become a good player..I would prefer u to learn classical openings like rut Lopez and queens gambit...As surprise weapon or to hold a high rated player u can use it of course...

I think the point he is making is more about how easy it is to equalize... it is easier to equalize in the london than in the ruy lopez.

Moreover it is generally excepted that chess is a draw, if played perfectly. So in theory everything which is sound and not refuted should end in a draw and equalize at some point.
