Is chess coaching a scam or no?

1) There are a lot of coaches
2) All coaches are different and therefore work different (age, gender, experience, rating, playing skills, teaching skills, etc.)
3) Each coach has (or should have) his own chess methods of teaching

Depending what is the way of the coaches they teach students, there are various approaches. For example I do not teach the opening lines, but I identify my students strong and weak points. Based on the students games and their comments I identify their problems and find the solutions.

As simple as that even if sometimes simplicity is not that easy to apply in practice.

Did you message your coach what kind of chess support do you need and how do they work with students? If not - next time do that and you can avoid disappointment.

There has never been such an amount of good and free resources on internet, but even a very good course can sometimes not be useful according to the level of the player / course.
And when you know that the most seen chess youtube videos are systematically the opening trap videos, you can be sure that many players are losing many hours on some unecessary content. But I understand the game, in 2023, things have to be speedy, catchy and easy.

I hope boring and well explained comes back into its own soon. @Poubelle

Perhaps I like that quote because I myself was once up to about USCF 1500.
A coach is not to be confused with a Cortical stimulator
