french defence against d4 - what do you think?

Hey, I realized I feel a little uncomfortable at d4 games, just got more common to the e4 games. Lately I just tried the french defence against d4 game, so i can stay in my comfort-zone :D
...and i had the feeling, it works as well. I made some good experience with that. (With the french defence at all....)

What do you think dear fellows? ( Although I'm thinking of, getting a new opening at all for that d4 - games)
By "playing the french defense" against d4 do you mean you reply 1...e6? That's called the Horowitz defense and I almost always use it against d4, but if my opponent plays 2.c4 I reply with 2...f5 entering the Dutch defense.
If my opponent plays 2. e4 I gladly play d5 entering the french. So, I recommend learning a reply against 2.c4, such as the dutch (Although its a much more complicated opening). Just try all sorts of openings at your level, its the most fun :)
Umm the French defense is a e4 opening not a d4 opening. I think you mean you play the move order trick with 1... e6 is that correct? Its a good move if you like the French. But most d4 players (not all) will play 2. c4 and avoid the French and go into a QGD after 2... d5. And you have to have a response to the 2. c4 move.
As others have mentioned, most d4 players will not oblige you by following 1. d4 e6 (the Horowitz Defense) with 2. e4, unless they themselves are big fans of the French (in which case, you may have your work cut out for you). It's more natural in their systems to play 2. c4, where 2. ... d5 enters the Queen's Gambit Declined.

Not that the Horowitz isn't a perfectly acceptable opening if you're comfortable with both the French and the QGD (or the Dutch, for example, if you should like to play 2. ... f5), but just be aware that (according to the Lichess opening explorer) you'll still wind up playing the French less than 25% of the time with the Horowitz.
Hey :) Thank you all for your feedback, yes its about 1. e6 .
yes, and I noticed it happens sometimes that it transmutes somehow into a normal french defence. I just tried it a few times...

Well, I think on higher ratings that french strategy may not work at all, but maybe it get some of track in the queen's gambit line. ;) Idk,..., but yes thank you again for you feedback. I think i have to do some studies on d4 games and learn some openings for those games, and not use always my usual suspects :D
#5 "I think on higher ratings that french strategy may not work at all."

There are several players rated 2700+ that would disagree ;). Radjabov, Ponomariov, and Caruana to name some. It's such a good opening! :D
Kramnik used the French in his recent rapid match with Hou Yifan. He lost 1.5:2.5 with black, however
*In the higher ratings french won't work etc.
The question is easy- do YOU want to play the french with black? Do you play french on 1.e4? If yes, then you may play 1. ... e6
ON the 2nd thought there is- should you play it? Actually no, apart from the "trap" of getting into the french there is no benefit for black, other than you can play 2. ... f5 without worry about Bg5. That's all
Для шахмат в интернете это нормально. В реальных турнирах конкурентам будет легче к Вам приспособиться.
