Nice game but black takin the knight was just really stupid
You tripped, and stumbled over your feet around moves 8-13, but you, your opponent missing the very powerful 13...e5 wrenching things open painfully for you.
However your last 6 moves in the mate were spot on tactical precision redeeming yourself.

lurarose why 13-e5 is good ?
@BoringEndGames It opens up the position on your king. It guards the g4 knight, and it wins material. After e5 I'm going to assume you castle because your king is almost open to the rook. Then e4 is coming, you are losing another minor piece, and are down 2 minor pieces it's still a little complicated after e5, but your basically dead with correct play.
However your opponent could not find the winning moves, so you got away with it, also they couldn't defend and you got a big attack which you did follow through with accurately at the end.

In the game he could have defended with 15...Qe7 or 15...Re7, then what?
