How come there's so few that writes back? I usually give out a Well Played where due, specially if my oponent seem to stick around after the game. But 9 out of 10 doesn't even bother a short ty. I try to comment on the game from time to time as well, it's usually met with dead silence :) Are chess players mostly introverts? ;)
Some players could be using zen mode, and around half of the players you play are probably using kid mode. Otherwise, perhaps your opponent is ignoring you because you won against them
They must be in kid mode or they just wanna move on, especially if they lost.

Many players have chat disabled. Many are playing on mobile, where typing out replies is more of a hassle. Many are used to Arena mode where you are pretty much forced to run from one game to another if you want to do well.
