Updates on Chess Position Trainer:
1) I learned that a new version 6.0 is coming out at some point, so that resolves my concern about the program not being updated.
2) I was not hearing back from support because his online support system is not working. I emailed him directly and he is helping me to resolve my "ignoring some positions" glitch.

So, assuming v. 6.0 has user control over spaced repetition intervals (including a maximum) and that he can resolve my glitch problem, I won't be looking for an alternative to CPT anymore. Quite the opposite in fact, I would recommend it highly versus the other programs I've been trying out for people interested in building and training their own repertoire.
