Double Elimination Knockout Stage (3+2 CWC 2020)

@FreeBee - @IgorBugMate 8-6

Again, leading 5-4 was completely dominating with no chances for him, but somehow got myself into a timetrouble and lost :( Despite being so unlucky, I've really enjoyed this tournament and looking forward to the next one! By that time, it will be nice to attend as a spectator :)

There was one case which requires a clarification. My opp slipped in a winning position and finally lost. I preferred not to count that game, but he insisted to continue as is (in my previous round I slipped and asked for a takeback, which was accepted. So I'd like to know what the rules are? Is a takeback as a result of a slip allowed? If yes, whats the common opinion about it?
@IgorBugMate, from the score line it looks like you went out on a hard fought match.

To respond to your query and for the benefit of others too - remember that this is a tournament. Just like touch move applies in over the board tournaments even if there is a premature hand movement to deliberately grab a piece, similarly a mouse slip online is still counted as a legal move. Quite simply, takebacks should not be requested, but it's not a hard rule that can be enforced. There's a benefit to moving quickly in being able to have more time on the clock and with that comes the risk of making an unintentional move, or possibly even an intentional bad move. Requesting and granting takebacks allows a player to benefit from moving quickly while reducing the risk of doing so.

We can't disable the takeback option, so while you can request one, your opponent certainly has no obligation to accept one. We aren't testing moral judgement here - these are tournament conditions. However, it is up to the generosity of your opponent to allow it or decline it. If your opponent accepts your takeback request, the game continues and the result stands. A player that accepts a takeback request is not entitled to later claim a win after losing a game.

In a scenario where you requested and are granted a takeback request, then if later in the match your opponent does not request to return the favour, or if your opponent requests a return of the favour but you decline to do so, you're still playing within the bounds of the rules. In such an example, you might end up being unpopular with the community for taking benefits on your opponent's generosity, without the favour being returned.

In the case of today's match it sounds like you were open to offering the same generosity granted to you by a different opponent in a previous round, but your opponent today was unwilling to request a takeback in respect of tournament conditions.

Hope that this at least clarifies the point of view of one of the organisers.
For those opposed to takebacks it is possible to change this setting in the Game Behaviour section of preferences. I have never had the desire to do this, though there have been opponents who made me wish I could disable draw offers.
Thanks a lot for the clarification @JannLee. To avoid any complexity regarding the slips, I guess that from now on they should be counted as a part of the game. Simple as that. I will neither request takebacks not allow them in future tournaments.

Good Luck to all remained participants!
