Why do I have to lose rating points by accepting draw!!!!!!!!

So we were 2 moves into the game and my opponent said he had to go so he offered me the draw.
At first I didn't accept the draw but he left the game and I decided to press the draw button instead of making him resign
My opponent rating was lower than me, so I guess that's why my rating decreased
BUT
he left the game and I had the option to make it a victory for myself so I believe that rating should not be affected when someone choses a draw when the opponent leaves the game.
I decided to be nice, but I think I will have to chose the "make my opponent resign" button from now on

Maybe there should be an "Ask to abort" function as well as an "Offer draw" function, so that the game can be abandoned without damaging anyone's rating or counted as a draw in the data.

But in the 2000 or so games I've played here, there's probably only been two or three times I'd have needed such a thing, so it's not something that is going to make much difference to anybody's rating in the long run.
