Although bound by certain concepts, Chess is not a "game" in my view. Chess transcends that broad label known as "game", it may be likened unto a "reality" in itself, but is only realized when in coexistence with our Reality. There's an Ancient saying that I think fits this; "Reality is all things unto all men." I believe Chess is Universal Law made manifest in the realm of Mind+Matter.
It's like a drug to me. xxx a love/hate drug, it can lift you up or dump you on your arse. bit like horse riding ,but you always want more to try a master it xxx it is an eternal struggle. Like life xxx that's my thought on your question
SchizoSi xxx p.s. You have to have a healthy relationship with chess. It is after all only a game or it could send you mad xxx
This reminded me of one of my favorite Jack Handy jokes:

>Ambition is like a frog sitting on a Venus Flytrap. The flytrap can bite and
>bite, but it won't bother the frog because it only has little tiny plant
>teeth. But some other stuff could happen and it could be like ambition.
In the end, it's merely like poker; luck. By no means the most skilled players do win. The ones who crash the least mentally - and we all do - will be on top. Fun game it is, chess. Outcome or results: roling the dice. No more, no less. Enjoy nevertheless!
