What is interesting you see racism in the piece color. I always correlated the white and black pieces to yin and yang, light and dark energies trying to overcome each other. Then again i always play stoned so I am prone to seeing deeply into nothing. :)

"pawns represent peasents" that have you well observed. And why is it bad to be a peasent? The Kings are gone in most countries but peasents are still everywhere, they are needed.

But actually pawns in chess just represent entities which can move in a specific way. An abstract mathematical or philosophical value is given to them by you and me and if they could care they probably wouldnt.
