Crossroads drama

Crossroads is actually an old (really old) blues classic by Robert Johnson, then being called Cross Road Blues. The story behind it was that Robert Johnson would have had a meeting with the devil at those crossroads and exchanged his soul for amazing musical talent.

Eric Clapton did just one of the many covers.

Wow, in this light, the analogy looks even better to me :)
For the study, I was thinking Ne6!! because it also makes a queen. In fact, without the fork with the bishop and the king, it would have been a draw like that line.
Hi in the study, what if after 1.bd3,rcxd3, d8, black plays rd4+?
I like the take home part... And the triggering concern, about in-game recognition. And not being afraid of analogies, if they help ciment the logic of the board for faster future usage of such pattern.

Analogies can also help sharing ideas, if they are adjusted to known audience background or some putative audience general common sense.

I am no chess expert, but these things can be said about any human construct with some logical base in them.

We don't do combinatorics of all sizes, but our ability to use stories knows little bounds.
