Who is the greatest world campion of chess in history

My opinion the candidate of the most greatest campion in history is:Steinitz,Alehin ,Kasparov,...
I would include the one with the highest rating of all times despite the toughest competiton of all times. Forget the past, it's over!
If you mean world human chess champion i think the stronger is the current w.c. Magnus Carlsen even because he could learn from his great predecessors. So,Valentin,if you learn from all of them(Magnus included) you could be the answer in the future!

I'm not sure why the link is breaking, but anyway, you can google "Computers choose: who was the strongest player?" which leads to an article on chessbase that explains that Capablanca played the highest quality moves of any player, but also points out that the positions he was confronted with were also relatively simple. Kramnik was also found as an outlier.
World Chess Championship is over rated.

A much more interesting discussion is who was the best player at the 1998 Missouri Scholastic Championship.
The greatest world champion will always be the most recent one.
The overall level has raised dramatically, see the engine analysis. The guys are better today, maybe we have deflation yet? Who knows?

Carlsen is the messiah we have long been waiting for since Kasparov. Unfortunately such things are realized with hind-sight.

PS: except for Erwin Wackernagl! :D
