  1. Barry_Forshaw Go Ryzalis
  2. Ryzalis ah, I thought the knight would be too strong on e4 if I played 13...Qc6
  3. Ryzalis apparently I can just kick it away with f5 and h6, and I'm fine
  4. Ryzalis that was a big mistake on my part
  5. flaxl Yeah, that's why I took on move 11 instead of just Ne4
  6. flaxl I thought ...f5 would be strong
  7. Ryzalis also, I was planning b5 after 18.c5, but I missed that the queen was attacking a5. seems like I didn't need to panic and could just play
  8. Ryzalis normally
  9. flaxl The knight doesn't really have a good square, same story if the other knight tries to go there after we trade off one set of knights
  10. Ryzalis also, missing 28...e3 was big
  11. flaxl Yeah, I really underestimated that move
  12. flaxl I saw it, but somehow miscalculated
  13. flaxl Lucky for me you didn't play it
  14. Ryzalis might have seen it if I'd managed my time earlier better, heh
  15. flaxl Yes, the time definitely mattered
  16. flaxl Usually I am on the side in time trouble, haha
  17. Ryzalis same with me, looks like I'm even slower :P
  18. flaxl Doesn't matter how much time we start with, I've gotten in time trouble several times in 90+30 games OTB
  19. Ryzalis I'm curious, was there any particular reason you decided to go for 2.Bc4?
  20. flaxl I've played the Scotch Four Knights for so long, and had some bad losses due to opponents preparing against me
  21. flaxl So I've been working on some new openings both for White and Black to mix it up a bit
  22. Ryzalis probably a good idea, I did do a bit of preparation for the scotch four knights
  23. flaxl Bought the Butcher's Chessable course on it, played it two times OTB already and won with it
  24. flaxl but had one devastating loss against an unrated player because he prepped like 15 moves, and I just went like "yeah, I totally know this"
  25. flaxl but he blitzed out everything and I blundered after I was out of prep, haha
  26. flaxl same story with another game I had against a player at my rating. Tbf the unrated player turned out to be rather good and won our section
  27. flaxl I don't really play that much online these days, I just do some studying and tactics, so I thought the opening might come as a surprise
  28. flaxl those losses was in the Scotch 4N, I forgot to mention
  29. Ryzalis ah, ok
  30. Ryzalis I was hoping for a chance to play the Schmid defense (6.Nxe4) in a classical game, but that will have to wait, it seems
  31. flaxl Oh, that one's tricky
  32. flaxl I faced that in my club last year I think, even though it is mentioned in my course I didn't remember it at all
  33. Ryzalis I really love those kinds of openings: offbeat, aggressive, but mostly sound
  34. flaxl Yeah, I think it's a very good try. He managed to checkmate me in a nice miniature
  35. flaxl In my experience I often get very good positions in the Scotch 4N online because people don't play the best moves,
  36. flaxl but when people are prepared I often struggle to find a good plan
  37. flaxl then again, I don't think I played the opening particularly well this game since I don't know it that well yet
  38. flaxl but it's nice to play something different
  39. flaxl you were certainly better after the opening
  40. Ryzalis I've been bungling a lot of opening advantages lately. probably something I should work on, haha
  41. Ryzalis well, it's lunch time for me. well played, and thanks for the game
  42. Ryzalis and good luck in your future matches
  43. flaxl Same to you, enjoy your lunch!
