  1. ethanpowell I don't think I've ever played against the QID. I have no clue about the theory here so this will be fun!
  2. yago666 you did twice, a league game where you played g3 half a year ago and a correspondence game where you went for this same Bg5
  3. ethanpowell debating between Bd3, Be2, or g2/Bg3
  4. yago666 g3 looks unwise because of h6 and you're forced to give up the bishop
  5. ethanpowell g3/Bg2 I mean. Doing that kind of allows black g4 for their knight though
  6. yago666 also that diagonal looks a bit shaky
  7. yago666 h6 looks like a move that you'll need eventually
  8. ethanpowell Hey Alex, welcome!
  9. Alex_slow QID - that's what I usually play
  10. Alex_slow as black
  11. yago666 what's this Bg5 move about then? I don't know a thing about te-he QID but it doesn't look like it's very popular
  12. ethanpowell thinking Qc2 here. then if dxc4 I take with LSB and I don't care if he then takes on f3.
  13. Alex_slow Bg5 is natural - sooner or later people play it, why not?
  14. ethanpowell but Qc2 g6 and my pieces aren't doing anything on that diagonal.
  15. Alex_slow by the way, can we now search for a specific position for a specific player, yago?
  16. yago666 no idea, it just didn't appear in the masters db that often
  17. yago666 an no I don't think so, but you'd have to ask some lichess guy
  18. Alex_slow but you wrote your 1st post here about ethan games
  19. yago666 yeah spiteknight told me he was going for a QID so I took a quick look at ethanpowell's games and ctrl f'd queen's indian
  20. ethanpowell thinking castles and just making I have a defense for Ne4
  21. Alex_slow ah, hard manual work :)
  22. yago666 need some rest now
  23. ethanpowell If Ne4 then Bxe7 and if he goes Nxc3 then Bxd8 Nxd1 Be7
  24. ethanpowell Probably need to be playing just a little faster than I currently am.
  25. yago666 hmm, I expected Nxd5
  26. ethanpowell thinking h3 and then Bf4. My bishop isn't doing much on g5 now.
  27. ethanpowell Do I preface with Qc2 first making Ne4 a non-issue?
  28. ethanpowell No, that doesn't work because of the Bxe7 Qxe7 line.
  29. yago666 :toth
  30. ethanpowell that knight can't last long on e4. I'm planning the simple Nd2 to remove it. That also gets rid of pawn forks on e4.
  31. yago666 11... c5 looks decent
  32. ethanpowell On Qd3 there was Nc5 Nxc5 bxc5
  33. ethanpowell and Qb1 just didn't look good locking in the rook
  34. yago666 ooh isnt 21. Nb5 a blunder?
  35. yago666 Ne2+ and take
  36. yago666 nice
  37. Aliquantus not nice for white
  38. yago666 Qe4 and trade
  39. yago666 in the end that's a piece for a pawn I think?
  40. Aliquantus how was 24... Qe4 instead?
  41. Aliquantus yes yago
  42. Aliquantus still a piece here somehow... i assume?
  43. yago666 yeah Qc5
  44. ethanpowell somehow I'm surviving. If Qc8 then Nc7
  45. Aliquantus Qc5 Nc3 Qd6+ and Nd3 and the knight escapes
  46. ethanpowell I think he had Qc5 there.
  47. yago666 aw now Nc3 and you lost the piece again?
  48. Aliquantus yeah, now you lose it back :(
  49. yago666 no theres Qxa3 there
  50. Aliquantus ah
  51. Aliquantus same thing after Qc5 Nc3 Qxa3 i guess
  52. ethanpowell This probably also works for him though
  53. yago666 but then you have to calculate some possible back rank threaths after Qd2
  54. Aliquantus how's Nc3 Qxa3 Nb1?
  55. Aliquantus Qd6+ and Nd3 again, at least
  56. Aliquantus or Qd6+ Kg1 Qc6 forcing the queen trade
  57. Aliquantus is Qxa3 Qc7 annoying?
  58. Aliquantus not really, the bishop can move and there's Qf8 to cover any back rank stuff
  59. yago666 also Qc5 if you want to be safe
  60. Aliquantus yup
  61. yago666 28... Qd5 followed by Nb3 looks simple enough
  62. yago666 wait dont do that that loses
  63. Aliquantus how?
  64. yago666 well Qd5 f3 Nb3 Nxb3 and you can't take the knight because of the backrank
  65. Aliquantus yes, good point
  66. Aliquantus but there's Qxd2 to bail out
  67. yago666 then Nxd2 and it's just a pawn up
  68. Aliquantus yes
  69. Aliquantus so let's not do that
  70. yago666 agreed
  71. Aliquantus it's equal material even
  72. yago666 even worse
  73. yago666 nice, g6 looks smart
  74. yago666 maybe h§ was better to avoid checks
  75. Aliquantus 28... Kh8 29. Nb3 would be awesome
  76. yago666 h6
  77. yago666 28... Kh8 29. Nb3 Qd5
  78. yago666 but still loses the piece
  79. Aliquantus yes
  80. Aliquantus warming up for my game by trinyg to find the worst possible move
  81. yago666 useful technique
  82. yago666 that way you won't play it
  83. Aliquantus agressive king!
  84. yago666 Kg3!!
  85. yago666 I guess taking the horse is unwise because of a possible perpetual
  86. Aliquantus is it perp though?
  87. yago666 this is nice
  88. yago666 taking away the d4 squar
  89. Aliquantus only way to avoid it was to give the bishop back i guess
  90. Aliquantus yeah, good idea
  91. yago666 spiteknight should replace me as board 3
  92. yago666 gg both
  93. Aliquantus gg
