  1. NM ChristopherChabris I thought I had a nice edge around move 19 but obviously I didn't take advantage
  2. NM ChristopherChabris Also I totally missed that 14.Nb5 would be strong
  3. AdultImprover yeah missed 14.Nb5 too, but after e5 i thought it would be totally equal
  4. AdultImprover but if someone is playing for the win then white
  5. NM ChristopherChabris I totally miscalculated 12.a3 too. I looked at it but failed to see that if fxe5 13. Nxc6 just wins a piece. Bad!
  6. NM ChristopherChabris I wanted to play 12.a3 otherwise
  7. NM ChristopherChabris I guess I was not as better as I thought after 14.Qd4
  8. NM ChristopherChabris I meant 19.Qd4
  9. NM ChristopherChabris I think if we had f-pawns it would have been better for white -- the missing f-pawns weakened my king as happened in the game
  10. NM ChristopherChabris so you had a lot of counterplay on the dark squares
  11. AdultImprover yes, i think after i get to clear the situation in the center and get rid of my problems with my light squared bishop i should be fine
  12. AdultImprover also i missed that i dont need to recapture on e5 on move 16 immediately
  13. NM ChristopherChabris I'm happy at least that 11.Na4 was the best move. I started to regret it as soon as you played f6 but Stockfish likes it
  14. NM ChristopherChabris Good point, I didn't see that you could ignore it either
  15. AdultImprover yeah and it dislikes my f6 xD
  16. NM ChristopherChabris If 16...Ba6 it seems the game would have gone like it did but you would have your bishop out before I played Qd4
  17. AdultImprover thats somethings i really need to improve in my french... getting the right timing for pawn breaks like f6
  18. NM ChristopherChabris You prepared well, or guessed well, as I was expecting a Winawer :-)
  19. NM ChristopherChabris What is your FIDE rating, by the way? (I ask all my opponents)
  20. AdultImprover i knew people expect a winawer from me thats why i decided to play the Nf6, its new and i already tried it in a couple of blitz games
  21. AdultImprover im around 1900 Fide
  22. AdultImprover my german rating is around 1960 i think
  23. AdultImprover what about you?
  24. NM ChristopherChabris 2080, used to be 2270 about 30 years ago!
  25. NM ChristopherChabris US rating 2206
  26. NM ChristopherChabris I guess I should be glad I didn't lose it in the time pressure
  27. NM ChristopherChabris Amazingly even though a previous opponent had played that offbeat Bb4 line I didn't remember my analysis
  28. NM ChristopherChabris He played 10...Bc5 instead of your Qe7
  29. AdultImprover i acctually am not very booked up in that line :)
  30. AdultImprover so i was out of book after Nxd4
  31. NM ChristopherChabris you mean 8.Nxd4?
  32. AdultImprover yes
  33. AdultImprover i dont want to learn extremely long book lines anymore, i think it kind of takes away my pleasure in chess
  34. NM ChristopherChabris That's a tradeoff that is part of the game but I understand it
  35. AdultImprover im trying to improve everything thats not my theoretical knowledge this year, like endgames, tactics, strategy
  36. NM ChristopherChabris Makes sense
  37. NM ChristopherChabris But as Tarrasch said, before the tactics, strategy, and endgame God placed the opening ;-)
  38. NM ChristopherChabris OK I don't think he said it, I just made it up based on some other real quote
  39. NM ChristopherChabris Well good luck in the last round and the future!
  40. AdultImprover quote by NM ChristopherChabris i guess
  41. NM ChristopherChabris haha
  42. AdultImprover i will pick that one up xD
  43. AdultImprover thanks for the game :) good luck for the rest of the tournament
  44. NM ChristopherChabris same to you!
