  1. ztraynor 17.Nxd4 would have won a pawn, I think. Saw Nxe5 not working and didn't realize d4 could do the same thing
  2. ztraynor thought about Nxc5 but Black can take back with the queen
  3. BamaBeeblebrox Have you played against that gambit before?
  4. ztraynor Nope!
  5. ztraynor I feel like if it wasn't for 20.Bg4 blundering a pawn, I was better
  6. BamaBeeblebrox I looked at 17. Nxd4, I thought after ...Bxe2 18. Nxe2 Rd8, that I might win a knight back.
  7. BamaBeeblebrox I think you're right. I felt relieved to get the pawn back.
  8. ztraynor Nb3 after Rd8 maybe?
  9. BamaBeeblebrox I just found this gambit today, and since I don't have a plan against the Reti anyway, I thought I'd try it.
  10. BamaBeeblebrox Ah yeah, Nb3 might save everything.
  11. BamaBeeblebrox 4. Bb2 is the best response. Taking the pawn is not advised.
  12. ztraynor Yeah it's an interesting gambit. I'm not sure I understood what the plan for Black is after the dust settles, though
  13. ztraynor Yeah I figured if I took it my knight could get hunted
  14. BamaBeeblebrox I'm not sure what the plan is either, to be honest.
  15. ztraynor Given how this game went, the plan might just be "make White's pieces awkward and hope for an eventual blunder" lol
  16. BamaBeeblebrox I felt like the rook trade and Qa5+ kept you tied up a bit, but you were able to untangle, and then I'm probably a good bit worse.
  17. ztraynor Because the a1-B is doing nothing against that pawn chain
  18. BamaBeeblebrox true!
  19. ztraynor The f3-N isn't really doing anything either
  20. ztraynor Even the b3-N has no real target since you always have b6 to hold the pawn chain
  21. BamaBeeblebrox I loved my knights after about move 26, but it was hard to make progress.
  22. BamaBeeblebrox Yes, I think you maybe should have pushed b6 yourself before I was able to.
  23. ztraynor I think d3 could have been an idea at some point. Interfering with the queen's defense of e2
  24. ztraynor Pushing b6 myself felt like a slow way of losing a pawn
  25. BamaBeeblebrox Yeah, maybe instead of Ra8, I should've pushed d3.
  26. BamaBeeblebrox Maybe, but your queen is blockading on c4 and you can bring your rook over, like you did in the game. My c pawn just feels very weak there.
  27. ztraynor I'm not sure how I defend my b-pawn though. Neither N gets there in time and the B is the wrong colour
  28. ztraynor And the Q is needed to blockade
  29. ztraynor I forget exactly when (post pawn-hang), but at one pointI remember thinking "My only well-placed piece is my king. That's... gotta be bad."
  30. BamaBeeblebrox Well, gg and good luck in your future games. Care if I run the analysis?
  31. ztraynor Go for it! Good luck to you as well
  32. BamaBeeblebrox Lol! Thanks
  33. ztraynor Huh. Castling was a blunder... for both of us. What? Lol
  34. BamaBeeblebrox The lesson is, never castle.
