  1. UncleVinny go chess!
  2. maxivgc didnt expect him to go for 1. d4. I know that after 9. d5 black is supposed to be completly fine ( Qe2 and dxc5 are mor popular)
  3. maxivgc however as I didnt expect 1. d4 i dont know how exectly im supposed to be fine haha
  4. maxivgc i think I remember some Jan Gustavson Video where he recommends castles and doesnt care about the bishop pair
  5. Dario19503 Is this the 45+45 league?
  6. cathode-ray-jepsen @Dario yes
  7. Dario19503 What round is this?
  8. Jamoke Playing Jan lines without the concrete reasoning seems dangerous, ha
  9. zschif final round (8) I believe!
  10. cathode-ray-jepsen 8/8
  11. Jamoke everytime I watch one of his lines he throws out some crazy computer sequences!
  12. Dario19503 Is it known when does the next season start?
  13. Jamoke It’s like 3-4 weeks after this one ends
  14. Dario19503 Cool, maybe I will participate if I find enough time and will :)
  15. zschif a5 seems weak. Qc7 Bd2 Rd8 and white is perhaps in trouble?
  16. Dario19503 I don't think White is in trouble, however it was definitely unnecessary
  17. Dario19503 h3 seems like a better choice
  18. maxivgc Ne5 Nxe5 Bxe2 Re1 Bb5 Qf4 Nh5 Qe5 Nf6 might be a way to snack a draw
  19. maxivgc altough just Bd7 with ideas like Nb4 and Bb5 also looks decent
  20. maxivgc feeling brave today, might regret later
  21. maxivgc move 14
  22. Dario19503 Ne5 was the way to go in my opinion
  23. maxivgc maybe shouldve started with Nb4
  24. tommeketoch (15) After Ne5 white probably doesn't play Nxe5 right? Maybe b3?
  25. maxivgc 20...Qxb2? e5 I guess
  26. maxivgc I wonder if my opponent saw this position when he played Nxe5 (21)
  27. tommeketoch (28) Is Rxd3 winning?
  28. antazhi8 yeah still puzzled why he didn't choose that
  29. AlexGaul (29.Bg4) I thought so too
  30. Dario19503 Fatigue perhaps
  31. tommeketoch (29) now white has option to go to rook endgame
  32. Dario19503 You mean 30?
  33. AlexGaul (30.Bxd7) isnt it still just winning
  34. tommeketoch (30) I think
  35. AlexGaul (30...Rxd7) Rxd3 still works
  36. tommeketoch (30) Since black pawn majority is cripled
  37. Dario19503 Not for long
  38. maxivgc unfortunately this isnt bullet, otherwise one could hope for Rxe7
  39. tommeketoch (30) Altough this is a very unusual rook endgame
  40. Dario19503 After all exchanges you have to go Re1 and then black picks up the a5 pawn
  41. maxivgc Rxe7 Qxd3 Qxd3 Rxd3 Re1+
  42. AlexGaul (30...Rxd7) Rxd3 Qxd3 Rxe7 no?
  43. AlexGaul (31.Re3) (30...Rxd7) then it will be a pawn endgame
  44. maxivgc considering how dead I am im suprisingly alife haha
  45. AlexGaul (32.Qe6) Kf8?
  46. AlexGaul (32.Qe6) Try to run to the queenside and hope everything is covered
  47. tommeketoch (34) aw
  48. AlexGaul Rxd3 was actually not winning
  49. FM NoMate4u really handled the opening phase poorly, wp there
  50. FM NoMate4u but im kind of amazed that the position after 25 moves is not +10 or something
  51. maxivgc the engine wants Nc7 there
  52. maxivgc I thought Nc7 just looses to Rxd3 Rxd3 Be4
  53. Dario19503 Qd2 is a saver
  54. FM NoMate4u I also overlooked this
  55. FM NoMate4u The explanation is simple (preventing e6), but that is super easy to say in hindsight
  56. Dario19503 I would say fatigue did the job
  57. maxivgc true, however during the game I thought that move didnt work
  58. maxivgc 14...Bd7 was stupid
  59. maxivgc For some reason I didnt consider Qh4 there
  60. maxivgc shouldve started with Nb4
  61. FM NoMate4u yeah
  62. maxivgc on move 14 I senced that the position was critical, however I also didnt want to spend all my time
  63. FM NoMate4u I just should not get away with playing greedily like this ;-)
  64. maxivgc In the end I overlooked Rxg6
  65. FM NoMate4u I mean, still everyone knows that black has the advantage, but the position does not feel like -2
  66. maxivgc true, it doesnt
  67. FM NoMate4u I mean, if you play Nf5 instead of Ng6 i have to take on d3
  68. FM NoMate4u And then you have good chances to hold
  69. maxivgc Yeah, i considered both moves
  70. maxivgc and for some reason I thought both were fine
  71. maxivgc after you played Rg3 (which I expected) I saw that you have Rxg6
  72. maxivgc however then it was too late already
  73. FM NoMate4u yeah
  74. maxivgc with fine I mean not loosing
  75. FM NoMate4u For those games it's a pity that the time control is only 45+45
  76. maxivgc yes
  77. FM NoMate4u I think more time would have helped both of us a lot
  78. maxivgc there are those moments, where in an otb game one would tank for half an hour
  79. FM NoMate4u I mean the computer hates some moves. But actually I think you played some really creative defensive moves, i didnt see in advance
  80. maxivgc which ones haha
  81. FM NoMate4u Yeah, e.g. this sacrifice with Bh6... i cannot calculate that in such a game
  82. FM NoMate4u The engine says that Qd4 is bad (i overlooked Nf5 initially)
  83. FM NoMate4u But else it is a move posing problems
  84. maxivgc I overlooked Nf5 there as well
  85. maxivgc thats why I played Qd4 haha
  86. FM NoMate4u I had the classical syndrome
  87. FM NoMate4u That i saw it as soon as i played Bg4
  88. maxivgc whats the classical syndrome
  89. maxivgc ah haha
  90. maxivgc I had the classical syndrom when i played Ng6
  91. FM NoMate4u and then i wanted to kick myself because I thought something else would be better then
  92. FM NoMate4u But apparently Bg4 seems to be (almost) the best move...
  93. FM NoMate4u It is also interesting that on move 28 engine says to just play the position exchange down.
  94. FM NoMate4u I did consider it. But honestly i was quite afraid that my attack would vanish after that
  95. maxivgc The kngith is hanging isnt it
  96. maxivgc oh im stupid
  97. maxivgc yeah I was expecting Rxd3 during the game but I wasnt as scared of it as the engine is
  98. FM NoMate4u Probably i would have played it in OTB with more time
  99. FM NoMate4u But for me (and prob most chess players) this position will forever be a mystery
  100. maxivgc yes hahaha
  101. FM NoMate4u Because intuitively, it should either be 0,00 or +10,
  102. maxivgc i will analyze this game without the engine (even though i saw quite some things now already) for many hours for sure
  103. maxivgc It was nice playing an FM, any tips on how to work on chess / improove?
  104. FM NoMate4u But if our silicon friend tells that it is +2, some crazy variations happen
  105. FM NoMate4u thanks, was also nice to play you, because you put up a nice and interesting fight ;-) and didnt shy away from tactics
  106. maxivgc +2 is a dubious eval anyways haha
  107. maxivgc Like is it loosing or isnt it, tell me my silicon friend
  108. maxivgc if its some quite position where you are up an exchange +2 makes sence
  109. maxivgc however what does +2 mean in such a position haha
  110. FM NoMate4u To your question: I think your plan of analysing it by hand is really great, this really helps a lot
  111. FM NoMate4u Otherwise I could recommend to do the method of list (due to Axel Smith) of mistakes
  112. FM NoMate4u it helped me to leap from 2200 OTB somewhere near to 2300
  113. maxivgc I do have a study where i collect my mistakes
  114. maxivgc I also skimmed trough alex smith once haha
  115. maxivgc however the study is 90% blunders or interesting ideas from my blitz games
  116. FM NoMate4u Well not all of his advice is great for everyone.
  117. maxivgc yeah, it seems like he completly ignores endgames/positional stuff
  118. FM NoMate4u I think if you have 10+ games from your last seasons, this is at least a good start
  119. maxivgc Altough maybe Tactics + Openings + playing is sufficient
  120. FM NoMate4u On that topic:
  121. FM NoMate4u There is a truly amazing book "Amateur to IM" by Jonathan Hawkins
  122. maxivgc Ive heard about that book tho I dont have it
  123. maxivgc its mainly about endgames isnt it
  124. FM NoMate4u Never learned more about endgames by such a small book
  125. FM NoMate4u Yeah
  126. FM NoMate4u I think it is quite advanced.
  127. FM NoMate4u But he studies some endgames at a really great intensity and explains ideas
  128. maxivgc being very advances is the problem with many endgame books imo
  129. FM NoMate4u E.g. Rook + 3 Pawns + a pawn vs Rook + 3 pawns (all other pawns f+g+h))
  130. FM NoMate4u Yeah.
  131. maxivgc I got Gelfands desicion making in Major piece endgames but I was lacking a theoretical foundation so going over it didnt quite work out
  132. maxivgc studying emms survival guide to rock endgames rn and once im finished I want to go back to Gelfand
  133. FM NoMate4u In the end they say "the rest is a matter of technique ;-)"
  134. FM NoMate4u That seems like a plan
  135. FM NoMate4u Actually, you seem to be so motivated, somehow I get motivated studying again...
  136. maxivgc haha nice to hear that
  137. FM NoMate4u Got lazy after getting the title... ;-)
  138. maxivgc I will remind you of that conversation in 3 years when you are an IM
  139. maxivgc FM is a great title tho
  140. FM NoMate4u Well if i would get there in that time, I will organize a party, where everyone from the 4545 league is welcome ;-)
  141. maxivgc haha I will remind you of that as well
  142. FM NoMate4u ;-)
  143. maxivgc how old are you btw
  144. FM NoMate4u 26
  145. maxivgc oh, so plenty of time for the tile haha
  146. maxivgc *title
  147. FM NoMate4u Maybe agewise, but it is not as easy as in the good old times on the university ;-)
  148. maxivgc yeah, Im at uni rn, great time to study chess
  149. FM NoMate4u yes, really nice. I went from 1800 to 2200 during my bachelor and my master
  150. FM NoMate4u So basically anything is possible ;-)
  151. maxivgc ohhh you have no idea how much that statement motivates me
  152. maxivgc Im 1800 rn
  153. maxivgc started with 16
  154. maxivgc got my first rating of like 1800 with 17
  155. maxivgc now Im 20 and still somewhere around 1800 tho I got a million times better (at least in blitz)
  156. maxivgc how did you train during university?
  157. FM NoMate4u Well, then something around 2100 should be in reach within like 2-3 years.
  158. FM NoMate4u After that it becomes a little harder
  159. FM NoMate4u Studying some books (esp. endgame)
  160. maxivgc Started my bachelor with 1800 as well, lets see if I can do 2200 by the end of my masters haha
  161. FM NoMate4u And just playing more tournaments
  162. maxivgc true, playing tournaments is something I should do more often
  163. maxivgc after every tournament my online blitz rating goes up 100 points
  164. FM NoMate4u Tournament praxis is really helpful.
  165. maxivgc as you can see by my rating i didnt play a lot of tournaments yet hahaha
  166. FM NoMate4u Unfortunately, quite hard to get right now.
  167. maxivgc I played one tourney during summer
  168. FM NoMate4u Nice ;-)
  169. maxivgc 9 rounds, losses to an Im and to a 2000 where I blundered a pawn in an equal position
  170. maxivgc wins against 1400, 1500 and 1950
  171. FM NoMate4u That seems solid.
  172. maxivgc and some draws against players rated 1950 to 2050
  173. maxivgc 9 rounds, 5/9 think, no category price (sad pikachu face)
  174. maxivgc didnt analyze the games properly tbh
  175. FM NoMate4u It was nice to play the game and chat with you afterwards, but i have to work tomorrow, so at some time i have to go to bed :)
  176. maxivgc good idea, gotta get up early as well
  177. maxivgc It was nice playing you! cya
  178. FM NoMate4u So goodbye, maybe until next season and good luck for reaching 2000 as a first step ;-)
