  1. Thor_Vidal was a good game SCV
  2. SCV-Chess yeah thanks for the game
  3. Thor_Vidal would you want to play some training games sometime?
  4. Thor_Vidal I'm probably in the same boat as yourself, just getting into competitive chess, but I'm pretty much a fanatic at this point :)
  5. SCV-Chess definitely I would really enjoy that
  6. SCV-Chess it is tough without OTB tournaments
  7. Thor_Vidal yeah
  8. Thor_Vidal gives us time to study, though
  9. SCV-Chess haha yeah
  10. Thor_Vidal and I have quite a few unread books on the shelf :)
  11. SCV-Chess what time control do you usually play?
  12. Thor_Vidal well I have never played an otb tournament before
  13. Thor_Vidal so usually I am used to playing blitz at the bar or cafe or the like
  14. Thor_Vidal but I have always had a love for the long, maybe infinite time contros
  15. SCV-Chess haha nice :)
  16. Thor_Vidal pure classical would be to my liking moving forward
  17. SCV-Chess Yeah it's nice to have some time
  18. SCV-Chess though i get into time trouble anyway...
  19. Thor_Vidal I think the line I played was similar to the KIA
  20. Thor_Vidal because the first 15-20 moves are pretty much scripted
  21. Thor_Vidal the strategy is pretty simple
  22. SCV-Chess Yeah I really like that line for Black
  23. Thor_Vidal it allowed me to play quickly; only I screwed up the move order several times
  24. SCV-Chess The fun part of playing the f3 Nimzo are the kingside attacks and I think against your line that is very hard
  25. Thor_Vidal right and had I not read the theory e5 wouldn't have occured to me
  26. SCV-Chess Roman is really funny in the chess.com videos, he basically says this is why he thinks the f3 Nimzo is the trash opening
  27. Thor_Vidal haha
  28. Thor_Vidal I noticed you hadn't played against it once in your lichess games :)
  29. SCV-Chess Yeah first time playing against it though I have seen Roman's videos and studied the theory. I try to study all the lines that aren't "fun"
  30. SCV-Chess so when you get them at least you know the position
  31. Thor_Vidal you played it really well honestly
  32. Thor_Vidal I think you had a good advantage relatively early at 17
  33. SCV-Chess I appreciate that I was pretty worried the whole time though thanks to Chessable I did know a lot of theory
  34. Thor_Vidal yeah well
  35. Thor_Vidal I think my speed might have played into that feeling but in reality you were doing very well I think
  36. SCV-Chess Yeah around there I was hoping you would allow the exchange of my knight for dark square bishop
  37. Thor_Vidal ahh
  38. SCV-Chess but then when you pulled the bishop back and played c6 I felt like you were going to have pressure on my king the rest of the game
  39. SCV-Chess Queen on b6 and then those amazing knights
  40. Thor_Vidal I was thinking of Bb6 as well, which would leave the c5 square for my Knight but then I would'nt have the square for my queen and therefore
  41. Thor_Vidal the pressure on b1
  42. SCV-Chess I knew you wouldn't exchange though because that would be too lucky for me :)
  43. SCV-Chess yeah that bishop retreat was hard I noticed the same thing, 3 pieces want b6 and c5
  44. Thor_Vidal ahh right
  45. Thor_Vidal right
  46. Thor_Vidal because in that line
  47. Thor_Vidal black wants to place his N on c5 eventually
  48. Thor_Vidal but of course that isn't always possible
  49. Thor_Vidal alright, I'm going to take a break and annotate the game for later, thanks for this post mortem SCV! lets schedule a practice session for
  50. Thor_Vidal later perhaps I can play whatever your opponent might play :)
  51. SCV-Chess Sounds good! That would be great! Best of luck the rest of the tournament
  52. Thor_Vidal thanks, ttyl
  53. Thor_Vidal I'm studying this game on lichess.org/study/EV1kzeQE
  54. SCV-Chess ttyl!!
