Co champions Jacob Wagner and Nick Lacroix

I won co-state champion of nebraska!

ChessOver the boardTournament
A hard fought tournament ended with 2 victors at 3.5 points each. I can now call myself a state champion :)

Hi. I played in the Nebraska closed state championship with 5 other people who qualified and tied for 1st, so I am officially co-state champion. The other guy had better tiebreaks so he gets an automatic qualification for the next year.

In round 1 I lost horribly. I thought I was playing my preparation, but after Bg5 h6 and g5 in the exchange french, I found that my bishop was almost trapped and I was feeling worse in the position. He had the bishop pair, and then I lost a pawn, and then boom game over.

Rounds 2 and 3 fared better for me. I won both games! That night I prepared for my next round opponents. Thank god I did, because exactly what I prepared for happened in both games. I was better against Nick Lacroix the co champion, but slipped up with f3 giving him a chance to sacrifice for a perpetual.

In the last round, I was sitting next to the co champion and his opponent, and I was just praying that his opponent could hold a draw. He did, and I won against Joe Knapp (former state champion ), giving me the tie.

Overall it was a really positive experience, really good site conditions including a coffee maker, sink, etc. I gained 12 rating points when all was said and done. That seems to be the trend for me lately, messing up round 1 and then coming back to tie for 1st or 2nd.

Here's a link to the games. My name is Jacob Wagner and the co champion is Nick Lacroix.
