  1. LarsenB Got a bit lucky with preparation here, since I knew he played this a couple of times, and it was the last thing i checked
  2. LarsenB right before the game
  3. LarsenB thought he was gonna go for the line with e5 immediately (no c5)... i think i saw some games with the idea Qh4+Bg5
  4. LarsenB but at this point I'm out of prep
  5. LarsenB not sure if the right idea, since it may have been helpful to keep the R on the f file in case of f3
  6. LarsenB anyway, this was to avoid an immediate Rd8, and the next idea is to develop with Bb2 and Na3, to keep an eye on a c2 invasion
  7. s2004k1993 this looks bad for white: 17...Qc6 18.f3 e4 19.Nc4? exf3 20.Na5/Rd6 f2+
  8. LarsenB Na3 was to avoid Qc6 f3 Qc2, but it's still a scary move even in this setup
  9. s2004k1993 actually instead of f2 at the end, Qc5+ also wins
  10. s2004k1993 so 19...exf3 20.Ne5 Qc5+ Qd4 seems to save the day
  11. s2004k1993 19...exf3 20.Ne5 f2+ should be winning
  12. s2004k1993 actually, simpler is 20.Ne5/Rd6 fxe2
  13. Alex_1987 looks like black is winning. or?
  14. LarsenB The point of Nc4 was to play Rd6, but then I saw the issue... we are probably done already here
  15. s2004k1993 20...f2 21.Kxf2 Qg2 22.Ke1 Bf3 is that mate?
  16. Alex_1987 yes
  17. Alex_1987 f1=B!
  18. ErinYu Nice miniature!
  19. s2004k1993 thanks
  20. Alex_1987 gg
  21. s2004k1993 19.Rf1 holds on! That's a tough move to play psychologically
  22. s2004k1993 I didn't like your move 15.b3, of course the threat is Ba3, but my queen wants to go to e6, so it felt like a waste of move
  23. LarsenB the threat Ba3 was incidental, i actuallky thought that Qe6, giving away control on d8 would have been favorable to me because of Rd1
  24. LarsenB and then i Na3 (to control c2 ) possibly Bb2 and try to untangle from there
  25. LarsenB but it was all a big mistake because don't have time for neither Nc4+Na5 nor Rd6 as intended
  26. s2004k1993 Yeah, you misread my threats. It was never about the open files...
  27. LarsenB no, well, it's always about the g2 issue in this line, it's just that I though i could be tehre in time
  28. s2004k1993 Well, thanks for the game. I hope the remaining four rounds go better for you.
  29. LarsenB they won't, but thanks
