  1. jg777 well not the opening I was anticipating but actually look forward to this way more
  2. jg777 to e5 or not to e5...how do I want to approach this
  3. jg777 this is why I don't play Be3 as early, so Ng4 stuff is not as important. But I have to remember to keep development up to hold the center
  4. jg777 I tend to keep things more flexible unless the opponent demands a more concrete structure. To me these positions can be nice for white
  5. jg777 I assume there will at sometime be a c5 played so I am aiming to have c3 ready- no c4.
  6. jg777 so now my ideas are Qe2, c3, Re1- in that order of consideration.
  7. jg777 I like Qe2 because it reinforces on e5, but also dabbles with pawn e6 ideas as well. multipurpose moves are nice.
  8. jg777 c3 is a preemptive idea to prepare against c5 by black, and Re1 has similar ideas of Qe2- but I feel like that rook belongs on f1..
  9. jg777 since I still have a possible f5 pawn push at sometime. I can always play Re1 anytime later here.
  10. jg777 Re1 and c3 are moves I can play anytime so Qe2 makes the most sense to me here- it was doing nothing on d1 for me.
  11. SuperIntegration (8) was 8. e6 immediately a move?
  12. SuperIntegration (8) and only then Qe2
  13. kajoM Maybe.
  14. jg777 yeah this was expected idea for black, this c5.
  15. jg777 this is also a good reason Bc1 is still there, to make Qb6 less of a pest.
  16. jg777 While my queen does protect b2 it's a indirect function and I don't want it to be its main purpose since it's focus is on the e file
  17. SuperIntegration Oof that's an unpleasant move to have to make
  18. jg777 Ok so taking e6 ideas away, looking to play maybe d5 sometime?
  19. SuperIntegration Nbd2-Ne4?
  20. jg777 I like my pawns, now I want my pieces to get more active. since my bishop on c1 has no good square, B knight seems to be the next piece
  21. jg777 so Nbd2, if d5 then black has defended to try and close down the c4-e4 squares and center activity, which means I can then look to play
  22. jg777 on the wings
  23. SuperIntegration If d5 then c5 hangs...?
  24. SuperIntegration Ignore me, am stupid
  25. jg777 I must decide if my proclivity to attack the king is warranted... because harry is now begging to advance soon.
  26. SuperIntegration Take d6 then take e6, what am I missing?
  27. jg777 that does not seem correct...f5 seems wrong. I should be able to win a pawn somehow... it feels like the position demands I do.
  28. Vaplo1008 (11) I want to have some control on e4, I don't have much space even though it's kings-indian
  29. jg777 I'm just looking at exd6 and trying to make sure I am not missing something dumb here. It must win a pawn though?
  30. jg777 granted the position could become pretty sharp and I will have to keep an eye on all the activity possibly, but I can't see any immediate
  31. SuperIntegration Feels like more than a pawn strategically tbh, e6 is chronic
  32. jg777 refuting idea against my exd6. it just seems to win a pawn here.
  33. jg777 exd6 Qb6 Qxe6+ then Nb3... even if Nd7 moves to uncover Bc8 I just move my queen back to e2 right?
  34. jg777 Ok i'm doing this because not doing it seems wrong and worst case I will have a good position to learn from if this backfires.
  35. Vaplo1008 (18) I think white was better with pawn on e5, now I consider Nb6 to defend e6 pawn and d6 should fall soon
  36. Vaplo1008 (12)*
  37. jg777 Ok I missed Ndf6, maybe that works for black.
  38. SuperIntegration Ndf6 then just plonk a knight on e5?
  39. jg777 I guess Nb6 works similarly. Ok so now to determine next steps.
  40. jg777 so I'll be playing the isolated D pawn here it seems. I think I played into black's hand here for not calculating all ideas clearly.
  41. jg777 so now Nb3 or Nc4. Since I have to now arranged d4 defense ideas.
  42. jg777 Nc4 seems the more active move and entices the knight trade which I tend to prefer here.
  43. jg777 I could work on putting my knight on e5 as well, maybe soon not immediately.
  44. jg777 target for me is definitely the e6 pawn. I think if I can work that idea I will be OK.
  45. SuperIntegration Why not immediately? To me Ne5 looked like the best move tbh
  46. jg777 I think I need to take on b6 if Nxd6. Just because Nd5 is rather annoying for my position.
  47. SuperIntegration Yeah not convinced, if Nd5 I thought it just becomes loose when e6 inevitably comes under fire
  48. SuperIntegration These guys are both way better than me though so what do I know :)
  49. jg777 I am not sure I can really attack e6 immediately so maybe just throw my knight on e5 for now and then move the rook to c1 or something
  50. jg777 black just need to get his LSB doing something.
  51. Vaplo1008 (15) Is black getting some air? I hope d5 ideas are not dangerous...
  52. jg777 so Ne5 makes a lot of sense to hamper the bishop development ideas here
  53. jg777 since it eyes d7 square and that also makes Bb5 or Nb5 ideas not work momentarily.
  54. jg777 I guess thats not true since Bb5 BxB QxB and no longer fork stuff.
  55. jg777 maybe I can make d5 here work, idea being to solve my weak d pawn as we go into the endgame (likely).
  56. jg777 like d5 BxB NxB is the idea.
  57. jg777 I think it works anyway but I've been missing obvious ideas this morning so..
  58. jg777 I haven't found any obvious retort for the idea yet so hopefully I am seeing this clearly enough. I don't think see any other idea
  59. jg777 that is better
  60. jg777 ... yet another obvious move I missed. It's just not my game today..
  61. Vaplo1008 (18) I was calculating more Qxd3 to be honest, now black can just capture on d5 or am I missing something?
  62. jg777 Yeah I think I just lost the pawn and likely the game with this one. Nothing Re8 is coming so I have to start clearing things out...
  63. jg777 Qf3 Ne4 just looked terrible to me
  64. jg777 I think I go down 2 pawns here when the dust settles but more importantly I have no good prospects along with it.
  65. jg777 probably another lost endgame here coming.
  66. kajoM Looks good for Vaplo for sure.
  67. jg777 Rfe8 here seems like the finish move to this whole idea here
  68. jg777 Because Nc4 will also be a thing, and the pressure is just going to be crippling for me.
  69. jg777 amazing two bad ideas by me and I end up with a completely lost game. such is chess!
  70. jg777 2 bad pawn move ideas rather.
  71. Vaplo1008 (20) Qxb2 is probably too greedy but 2 pawns advantage is tempting
  72. jg777 Hmm this is much preferable to me than Re8 was.
  73. jg777 This seems like a much more tame line than what he had available. I mean at least I have something to play around with here, even if down
  74. jg777 attack the pawns and get pieces active is the game plan here. 2 pawns down but a MUCH easier position for me to play than what was to me.
  75. jg777 if I can make that d pawn go away I think I can have a more serious chance of holding this endgame. Will be unpleasant though.
  76. jg777 some rook to d8 then Rd4-Rb5 is the general scheme here but there is a6 so then I will go Rbd1 to accomplish the d pawn takedown.
  77. jg777 i think if something like h6 I need to play h4 because Bxh6 Re8 and the e pawn will fall which is more important than the h pawn of black
  78. Vaplo1008 d5 pawn is lost anyway, I will try to bring king to e6 and force-trade at least one rook
  79. jg777 yeah he's not even going to try to defend that lost D pawn, he's going straight for the activity and e pawn attack
  80. jg777 ok now heres the hard pawn- I need at least 1 rook on the board to attempt to hold this but I think I can trade one rook pair.
  81. jg777 however Rbd1 RxR RxR Ke6 and he wins the e pawn.
  82. jg777 so with that in mind is it better to play e6 here and continue with some activity with 2 rooks.
  83. jg777 well that won't work either since I can't play Re5+.
  84. jg777 so that puts the nail in the coffin for that idea.
  85. jg777 so RxR here is probably best then... which feels wrong but I think is actually correct.
  86. jg777 Rdb5 seems insane here as well
  87. jg777 Rdd1 doesn't seem to change a whole lot either
  88. jg777 if I could invade on the 7th rank somehow that would be nice but I don't see anyway to do that
  89. jg777 I think RxR Re1 is the best I've got and it doesn't look great at all.
  90. jg777 since Ke6 Rd5 and the e pawn is dead anyway.
  91. jg777 so maybe Re1 makes zero sense. just Rc1 or something.
  92. Vaplo1008 btw knight on c4 is doing huge work defending d6 square
  93. jg777 he just plays Rd4 after Rc1 and I am still sunk here.
  94. jg777 Yeah there isn't a whole lot here for me to do.
  95. jg777 so with nothing else looking reasonable maybe Rdb5 keep pieces on the board for a bit and something can happen
  96. jg777 which Na3 is a fork.
  97. jg777 so that'd be a great way to end this game... :)
  98. jg777 The rook is active but how meaningful that'll be is less clear.
  99. jg777 ouch he dropped the knight
  100. jg777 back into the game I am..
  101. jg777 that's a painful blunder by him when he was playing so well.
  102. Vaplo1008 Again such a blunder, what i am doing....
  103. jg777 at least he was playing much better than I was :)
  104. jg777 So I need to hold on to the a pawn here because his a-b pawns are his main threat now. so Rc2 seems correct.
  105. jg777 just keep the king away from the queenside should be good for me
  106. kajoM Oh god.
  107. kajoM I thought about Nc6, but then realized it stopped the N...
  108. kajoM Still lots of chances for Black.
  109. kajoM Although a win is probably out od hand.
  110. Vaplo1008 It has to be winning for white, but to be honest I don't see clear way to win so I will play till the end
  111. FM nuagesgris oh no
  112. kajoM C'mon, Play kb3 ;)
  113. FM nuagesgris Nc6 was a horrible blunder. Anyway winning this is not easy
  114. kajoM H6?
  115. FM nuagesgris to h6 h5 is good I guess
  116. FM nuagesgris just something like a4
  117. kajoM H6 h5 g5?
  118. FM nuagesgris Bxg5
  119. kajoM Rxg3
  120. FM nuagesgris Bxh6
  121. Vaplo1008 (46) Yeah, that might be a way to victory for white - push h pawn, if i try h5 i guess white goes for g6
  122. kajoM Oh wait.
  123. kajoM You are right.
  124. kajoM I'm laying here in my hammock and not really calculating, so I guess my ideas might not be the best.
  125. Vaplo1008 I didn't deserve this draw after such a blunder :p
  126. kajoM nice save still
  127. FM nuagesgris except for one move a very good game vaplo
  128. kajoM even if lucky one
  129. jg777 Yep, you just returned the favor to my mistakes so draw is fine.
  130. jg777 Was not a good morning for chess for me clearly, so not losing is a win in my book. Cheers to your remaining games.
  131. Vaplo1008 Thanks for playing
  132. Vaplo1008 Good luck in a future games :)
