  1. Lukhas I can never remember the lines in the French, I should brush up on them, it's quite a popular opening, despite it being utter trash
  2. Lukhas I played 1.e4 because I'm a Good Man, unlike sgis
  3. Lukhas plan is to play normal moves and don't try to push too hard, we got the team win already, so I can just try to play chess
  4. Lukhas ...if I can remember how that goes
  5. Scarff Playing normal moves. A brave plan!
  6. pfntr well it still counts for the tie breaks :/
  7. Lukhas I thought c4 would help me, closing the center
  8. timothyha C5-c4 is usually never good for a French player
  9. Scarff I think white has no issue defending the b2 pawn. And releasing the tension in the center makes it easier for white to play
  10. timothyha (13) does b3 actually help Black? I would probably keep the long pawn chain locked for a while and start a kingside attack
  11. Scarff Yeah, I'd do the same.
  12. Scarff Maybe with Nf1 instead of b3
  13. timothyha Yes, 13. Nf1 would do. Now Black has some soft spots in White's position to attack - c3, h2. Rook lift is easy too, Queen can return to d8
  14. timothyha (15) White can still correct the mistake and play Nd2-f1-g3 :-)
  15. timothyha (16) Be3 could stop Black's attack on f2, I think
  16. Lukhas calculating 16.c4 for the 5th time
  17. Lukhas not sure I can allow 16..Nb4!
  18. timothyha (16) Oops, did Lukhas miss Qxf2+?
  19. timothyha Or Nxf2...
  20. timothyha Qxf2, Rxf3, Bxe5... Qxh2...
  21. Scarff Yeah, that looks very strong for black
  22. timothyha 16. Be3 would have stopped all that idea...
  23. Lukhas I thought it didn't work, what did I miss?
  24. timothyha (18) Be3.... could it help again now?
  25. Lukhas alright, show me
  26. timothyha (18) ah... didn't see Kxf2 :-)
  27. timothyha two captains making us nervous here
  28. timothyha (20) Rh1 now?
  29. timothyha but it's still a bit dangerous with Qc7-g3 idea
  30. timothyha Probably, white king need to go home after the brave move
  31. Lukhas Ah, Qd6 defends, missed that :)
  32. timothyha (20) but Black is strangely slow at this moment
  33. timothyha (21) I think White can play it safe by putting Be3 (again! :-)) and shifting king to e2, rook a1-f1, etc.
  34. timothyha (22) Now that I see it, maybe Ba3 can also resolve the tension
  35. timothyha OK, after 21... Bf5 there's no Ba3 anymore
  36. timothyha (22) Maybe Qd2, Rad8, Qxd5+, Qxd5, Bxd5, Rxd5, Rxh2
  37. timothyha (23) Ba3 again ? :)
  38. timothyha But the advantage will reduce a knight vs two pawns, so it's still very unclear...
  39. timothyha (23) Rae8 will scare White a bit... The position is still shaky for a while...
  40. Kalandra I feel like Qe3 was a mistake :/
  41. timothyha @Kalandra, yep, now Be5, Qd1 is a sad retreat
  42. timothyha Now at least Black has two rooks playing, and White has only one
  43. timothyha (25) I'd like White to finally play Ba3
  44. timothyha (26) Time for the king to run for his life via e1
  45. timothyha (30) oh.... why did White take on g3
  46. timothyha Now we have Rd3+ coming
  47. glbert 30...Rd3+ looks devastating
  48. glbert huh
  49. timothyha Rf2+ Kb1 may hold
  50. timothyha Bc1 is the last resource
  51. timothyha But no.... Kb1 Qg1+ Kc1 Qg1+ Qd1 Rf1
  52. timothyha Kb1 Qg6+ I mean
  53. Lukhas ah, I finally see the mate, which means my oppo must have seen it 5 moves ago :)
  54. timothyha this kind of geometry is dealy
  55. timothyha deadly
  56. sgis RIP
  57. sgis gg
  58. timothyha Oh, I saw the long version :-)
  59. timothyha Not Qc2#
  60. sgis yeah why go for a mate in 1 it there's a mate in 2?
  61. sgis mate in 4 i mean
  62. Lukhas whew
  63. sebiz wow that Qxf2 i kept thinking and didn't see the correct continuation there :(
  64. sebiz seems you had a big chance after that, i messed that sequence up
  65. Lukhas indeed
  66. Lukhas totally missed the diagonal opening
  67. Lukhas somehow I thought that Nxf2 couldn't work because the queen was blocked
  68. Lukhas and then I looked up
  69. Lukhas tense game after that :)
  70. sebiz yeah!
  71. sebiz totally didn't see that rd3 thing
  72. sebiz i mean i didn't see many things in the end there, was also at 4 minutes, so i just hoped it went in the right direction with the checks :D
  73. Lukhas yeah I missed the draw apparently
  74. sebiz also didn't realize your 29.Nxg3 was a mistake at the time, i think i would've done the exact same thing
