Anyway, it’s true that Lichess needs to be refreshed by something cardinally new, but not earlier than in next 29 months.

With the reduced initial force of pawns not having a 2 square start, a player well versed in theory need fear a loss even less than in standard. As a game to play I find this appealing, I like that the better player wins, rather than just the better prepared player. Nevertheless as a spectator I can appreciate good preparation such as classical control World Championship.
I understand that the high percentage of professional draws is a concern, and with the reduced forces the no stalemate rule will probably not increase white's advantage too much. However, for me the skill in drawing from a worse position through the endgame (including stalemate) is one of the beauties of standard and 960 chess. The endgame is missing from Shogi for example.
