Chess marathon tournament

The chess maraton is a great and funny idea, but I think the tournament would be much more balanced and the odds more equalized, if somehow the players are grouped according to their rating strength. I understand that this is also a trial of endurance, but otherwise what is the point of pairing a player rated at 1600 with a 2000+ opponent?
Loving the trophies too, now I feel like a character in "The Road". :-D

#131: it's already pretty much the case: people get paired according to ratings in the first game and then (to a reasonable extent) with the closest available player in the standings, if I am not mistaken. Of course there are limitations:
- if you happen to be rated 1499 and Caruana just registered with a new account, you may play against him in the first round (lucky you)
- if you're having a bad tournament and still have a low score after a few hours; Caruana enters late, quickly racks up points and gets a score similar to yours: you may play against him.
- you're not doing too great, Caruana is already way ahead of you but unexpectedly each and every player close to you in the standings already has an opponent: you may play against him.

You would agree those are exceptions rather than the norm, especially long after the tournament has started. This means you will probably bite on a few tough cookies during the tournament (which in my view should be seen as an opportunity, just as much as we shouldn't deny lower rated players the possibility to play against us) but overall, and as far as I could experience, the majority of opponents one gets is within reasonable range of one's own abilities (again, not based on ratings but on the standings; some strong players may be doing badly and some lower rated ones unexpectedly well).
#134 Is it ironic that someone with the name kun fu chess is asking for more seriousness?
I just watched the short movie kung fury 2015
Reminded me of axe cop.
Anyways, back to serious comments.
