Atomic chess

When I first saw the symbol for the new anti-chess variant, I thought it was atomic. Atomic is a variant that I would love to see implemented, and that thibault concluded (when I asked him long ago) was too difficult to implement. Maybe today he would reconsider? Both ICC (and I think FICS) have it, and that's one of the few things they still have over lichess.

Rules: pieces explode when capturing, destroying the capturing piece, the piece being captured, and all pieces (but not pawns) in a one-square radius. See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atomic_chess
I think I'll give it a shot (I'm the guy who implemented antichess) :P.
You can try a very similar variant here:
http://karlb.github.io/nuclearchess/ -- I can't remember what rule it was, but Thibault it has a very slightly different rule to normal Atomic chess. Anyway, it's great fun and you can play it in your browser!

And if you're looking for inspiration (though I can't speak for the quality of the code), here is its chess.js based source code: github.com/karlb/nuclearchess
Indeed, the symbol used here made me also think of atomic. I played atomic on fics for a while but got bored very soon. There is only a few motives in that variant, too much forced lines especially for black. I would prefer crazyhouse and even more bughouse

I once noticed a slight difference fics vs ICC in atomic regarding to check/win due to explosion. On fics killing the opponent's king by explosion has precedence. Let's say if you are in check but you can explode the opponent's king in the next move you don't have to care about the check. On ICC you need to get out of check in that case.
NEED...MORE....VARIANTSSSSSSSSSS!!!11!

(But seriously, all of these would be great. I'd be in favor of developing atomic chess before bughouse simply because bughouse has so many nuances, and needs two visible boards -- it might be a pain in the arse to implement, and I love atomic chess.)
Haha. I'm working on atomic chess at the moment. Not sure when it will be available, might take a few weeks depending on how much time I have.
