1 minute forfeit

Can you get the 1 minute forfeit to bugger off. My internet frequently loses connection and this has caused me to lose many games unnecessarily. Forfeiting should occur once you've actually run out of time.
Well sorry but this feature is useful to get rid of people rage quitting without resigning. Unfortunately it is programmatically impossible to distinguish between ragequit and connection fail. That's why it's one minute and not ten seconds.

Note that the system does not declare your loss automatically after one minute offline. It only proposes your opponent to declare your loss. Your opponent takes the decision to wait, or to instantly win.
Okay and what do I do with the unload event? I send it over the network to lichess.org/? Bummer. I cannot, because the page is unloaded.

Why can't you just assume I know what I'm talking about?
Because assuming make an ass out of you and me.

Take a brief look on some forums for "how to log unload event to server" and there's plenty of solutions. If you're worried about the page no longer existing, you can always throw an alert at the user (e.g. "you are about to navigate away from this page, doing so will forfeit the match.") to keep the page alive long enough to log server-side that the user is about to ragequit (so you give them minimal time to rejoin).
I would rather agree with Clarkey on this one.
The purpose of open-source should not be to assume someone else's experience.
It should include to merge in also some ideas for possible bypasses to problems, in the absence of direct solutions.

But, technically, I don't believe in any need at all for the Force Resign thing in Rated chess because rated chess tournaments give you absolutely no such power. You must remain patient and let your opponent's clock run out to win the "free" points.

I have NEVER in my lifetime (that I recall?) on this site forced a resignation on anybody; it's pointless. Tournament rules say wait, so wait.
Thank you, Meph. I should've made the distinction that the 1 minute resignation is more of an issue on rated games than casual games.
thibault probably added the Force Resign feature for people who get impatient and bitch about the website.

Fact is, though, he already must have ground rules set up for "like it or GTFO", and I think this should be one of them.

Anyone who wastes away complaining that their opponent left the board without resigning is an impatient, ungrateful ass and lacks the tournament experience to understand that the win itself is the serious goal.

Now, as for leaving the 1-minute forfeit in, but doing as you say and distinguishing between disconnected versus quit the game manually, I have no clue because I R NO pr0gg13z 4 d4 serv0rz, but in my limited experience of assy arguing with thibault, he disregards/misses the dynamic, less static or indirect solutions to things.

But hell, I'd remove it.
I have lost many 'o games that way tbh,
yet I agree with thibault because it is a pain to have to wait in a 10 min game to make sure u gonna win.
I had played some asshats back in the day when there was no force resigantion and they seriously attempted to fake a RQ just to win a lost game.
Therefore it is safe to say IMO that the FR function will benefit more than it annoys some players.
I thought about the popup on page unload long time ago. The issue is that the popup appears even if you are just refreshing the page (which can be useful sometimes).

But ok, I'll ponder it again, and look on Internet for possibly existing solutions, and report here.
