Years ago, I proposed that Lichess include a bell curve of all players ELO that everyone could see. This was eventually done, thanks to the hard work of Thibault and the mods/programmers.
Perhaps it could be a good idea to integrate additional stats for each player. Such as the breakdown of "time spent playing" into different variants or puzzles solved.
But above all, I think LiChess could gain and retain players by creating more "trophies", such as those shown on chessable or chess.com; some trophies could be gained by playing various openings (KIA, dragon etc...), others by beating titled players, yet others by solving a certain amount of puzzles...
