Tournament........??!!!

The question is simple. Is a rating of 1900 good enough to justify playing 'serious' tournament chess?
The question is nonsense., not simple. You want a serious game - wear a frown. If you want a happy game - wear a smile. If you want a ridiculous game, play with your eyes shut (especially now the sound's a bit dodgy)....
You can be as 'serious' as you want, there will always be someone laughing at your inferioritty (yeah, spelling too).
And then you crush them *evil laugh*
I don't know why you want to justify playing tournaments. But if you get a rating of 1900 you're are strong enough to play tournaments for sure.
It's always good to play serious tournament chess. It's a good way to become a better chess player and tournament organizers are always looking for more participants. It's nice to have a good rating, but it isn't often a requirement to play tournaments (and you can often only get a good rating by playing tournaments).
I'm a 1400 rated player and had won a blitz tournament before, so ratings mean nothing.
My "rating" is not officially 1900;the guy I beat was (1928,-1875,1786,and 1790 respectfully were the rating of the remaining players. But I lost-my only loss- to a guy rated 1679!)
But then I get murded in blitz chess! I don't understand it-although its humbling.
As others say, long time control over the board chess is a lot of fun and really improves your game, particularly your visualization and planning skills. And you'll meet weird people in your area!!!
Every chess tournament category should be fair and serious. If a rating fits within a tournament category, than it is fair to say that they should be seriously trying to win by not giving away material without reason.
If you have the same rating, you have the same chances of winning. As the window between the ratings increase, the harder it gets to win against a stronger player. Time is a factor that affects a rating. Given enough time to analyse a candidate move, the efforts put into a logical move will normally generate good results.
A 1900 rating is normally located in the middle of a «Class A» tournament listing. If a player is at the top of the list of players in that category, than they will have a very good chance of winning all the games. Enjoy climbing your ratings one-step at a time by playing players within a 200-rating window. The chances of winning will probably be about 25-75%.
