What is flagging?

I was confused about this term when I saw it in the tournament chat, could someone please explain it to me?
I THINK it means when someone tries to make their opponent lose on time. Even resorting to "dirt tricks".
Last time clocks had flags when you timed out the flag is raised.
@Vertonghen
There are a couple usages of "flag." If I'm "flagging my opponent" or "trying to flag my opponent" my intention is to beat them by timeout. Just as well I could say "I flagged" or "I keep flagging [myself]" to mean I lost or keep losing on time.
There are 2 meanings of flagged in Lichess:

1) Time Termination

2) Flagged for computer assistance.

Flagging comes from the noun flag.

On mechanical clocks, there is a red "flag" that drops when the minute hand passes 12 O'clock, (when time runs out).

Clocks are digital now, with audio cues like beeps instead of visual cues.

Hence the term is only a memory. I still have my mechanical wind up clock, made in West Germany, where there was a WEST Germany.
