RFC: Chess set recommendation

Hi all,

i would like to buy a real cool chess set.

The size of the board should be about 17'' to 18'' with real black and white squares and inlayed coords and the chessmen should be some classic boxwood/ebony or so Stauntons with a double set of queens. The chess set should be available in Europe.

The design should be "schlicht" (plain) but high quality.

I already did some investigations but i couldn't find yet anything that really convinced me.

Thank you very much for any hint and best regards,

Karl
Gear question revisited:

Some may have thought that this is a crazy question, right? But it isn't really so easy to buy a cool set.

But i figured out a set (from a company in the UK) for about € 200: 20 inch board with ebonized 3.75 inch boxwood Stauntons with two extra queens (i changed my specs a bit..OK).

And It seems to be impossible to find a quality board (solid wood etc.) with coords. Just plastic/porous printing etc. available.

Ok there is a well known company in the US that HAS cool gear. But i'm in the EU and therefore i have to pay tax as well freight which will easily double the price.

In the case described that means about € 400 !

The weird thing is that the stuff comes from Spain, Italy, Poland, India etc. and is shipped to the US and then back to Europe...

And don't you like nice gear? I guess you think about the stuff you use: cell phones, computers, cams, knifes, guitars, bikes, tools , your clothes etc...?

It isn't a bad thing to have nice things that last for decades...

Seems you are from Germany. You may want to check out www.schachversand.de . That's the homepage of Schach Niggemann, a shop which is dedicated to Chess (and some Go) only and they offer also a wide range of boards and pieces. They do a nice job on their webpage with extensive descriptions of the products (telephone consultancy is also great): Think it's good so support such specialists ... and just to be sure: No, I have no relations to their business, I'm only a happy client (and once purchased a board there which also came from Spain as in your question).
Thanks Cat63 for your kind reply. I know Niggemann - i bought some books there.

They are very kind and competent.

They offer two sets with double queens made by Chopra for about € 100.

Unfortunately these sets are sold out. Waiting time for reissue is about ½ year.

It is possible to get ANY set from their catalog with double queens but waiting time might also be about ½ year.

And it seems to be that the demand for sets with double queens in Germany seems to be poor. Who knows why. Perhaps my fellow countrymen prefer premature surrender?

The major address in the US seems to be The House Of Staunton. They offer ANY set with double queens - from the budget to high end. But as i mentioned: I'm in the EU. Things become too expensive...

So i ended up with an offer from Regency Chess from the UK: Broadbase Club Staunton Chessmen 3.75 Inches and 19.7 Inch Wenge and Maple Deluxe Chess Board for € 170. I like budget gear ;-)
