Time-variants

Hi,

I was wondering why the time variants (Bullet, Blitz, Classical) are set up so weirdly. I mean Bullet is pretty obvious but Blitz is usually considered to be up to even 15min which makes lots of sense. With this tiny gap for blitz here you don't really get many time controls of blitz available and at the same time you have incredibly large range for Classical.

The problem with Classical is that players who play 8/10min get to be compared in the same rating list with players who play 20/30min games which are at the same rating level of much higher quality. And yet they are 'worse' according to rating than many players who play much faster games of lower quality..

Also the name Classical is a bit odd since you imagine a very long match under classical (often 1h+).

My suggestion would be the 'classic' time variants - Bullet is ok, but Blitz up to 15min and 15+ should be Classical/Rapid (since 1h+ games are not frequent in online chess the name should not really matter..).

What do you think? Is there any reason for current distribution that I do not see?

Thank you!

blitz: 3 min + 2 s/move
rapid: 15 min + 10 s/move
classical: 100 min + 15 s/move for 40 moves, then 50 min + 15 s/move for 20 moves, then 30 min + 15 s/move for the rest of the game.

Online there are other issues:
cheating
long staring at a screen
disconnects
I also asked this multiple times. Never get a response from Lichess staff. Weird. Would make morse sense to make blitz 3- 15 minutes and 15+ minutes classical. Now blitz is 3-8 minutes.

I think the site is now big enough for it.
Certainly the question of a fourth rating category has been raised multiple times. If I remember correctly, the answer I got from administrators was that, "There aren't enough people playing at slower time controls to merit introducing a new rating category."

My response:

is essentially, "Is that still true?"

to which nobody has yet made an effort to gather statistics in support (how many games played/day at each time control) in support of a new category.

It might be a special case, but I want to give for consideration that I for instance have not played any classical games yet, since I want to kind of preserve this category to be a real classic rating in case I have the time to get into it (again) and only use it for 45+45 as this is a time-setting most frequent in long-timed online chess.
If there were both categories I would have played a lot of rapid for sure, since I quite like the tourneys here on lichess and sometimes do not feel awake enough for 5 min. =)
We don't need a fourth category. All they have to do is widen the Blitz range and narrow down the classical range.
